The most talked about lens is now available for Pentaxians...though a bit more than the MRP of USD799.

The phrase "caveat emptor" comes to mind here.

Sigma had NOT released the Pentax version of the 18-35 yet. I talked to Sigma yesterday, and they are not even in containers yet.

there is another post link Ricoh website state they release the K-mount version on 6/20, I think.

So there is no surprise they are available in Japan earlier, as Sigma make all their lenses in Japan....

I'm curious to know how it works out for you. Please report when you can. I've spent a fair amount of additional cash recently, in effect, to avoid having to deal with a 28.6 oz. lens, whose weight could have been 22 oz. or less by Sigma's pursuing a more Pentaxian design objective. I understand the rationale here, though.

If I could be convinced that the IQ really was to a certain standard across the board, and that Sigma-esque issues reported for auto-focus inconsistency lie within reasonable limits (with a practical workaround available, if necessary), I'd have to concede that such a beast might simplify my life after all. My perspective is that of a prime lens user; but, you know, you can't always get what you want. I address this as a prospective purchaser.

Proud Sigma 18-35 1.8 Art Pentax Mount Owner

Today the jewel arrived.
Well it's more a mountain but a jewel ;-)
Attached i have some quick shots to compare the IQ with the Tamron 28-75 2.8.
PP on all pics was only Lens profile and Daylight WB, nothing else.
The first two pics should give you an idea of the size.
Then there are 4 pics from the Sigma at 35mm (f1.8,2.8,4.0,8.0)
The other pics are from the tamron at nearly 35mm (f2.8,4.0,8.0)

Can't wait to take the beauty out for some real pics

For the mods:
Feel free to move the post to the correct place to be.

Any other pentax users with this lens yet?

Feel free to comment.

I think I really want this lens. I even have a birthday gift certificate that will reduce the price a bit for me at B&H.
