62" Nest carbon fiber tripod - $147
Posted By: panoguy, 07-08-2014, 08:25 PM

Now $170.

Apparently the US distributor of Hong Kong Nest Photographic's tripods has a few too many of the 62" tall, 4-section, monopod-convertible, carbon fiber models (Nest 6294C) as they <were> 30% off on eBay. The seller is OEC Camera, a well-known, US-based shop that specializes in Marumi filters, Sunwayfoto heads, and Visico lighting equipment.

Normally I don't post deals like this, but I currently have a Nest tripod in-house for review, and it's very well designed and constructed. The 6294C is the size of a Gitzo 2-series (29mm top tube sections, holds 20kg), but weighs less and packs smaller. It's frankly built better than anything even close to its normal price of $250 (Horusbennu, Weifeng, Dolica, etc.) and is more on par with the largest Sirui and Feisol tripods, and better designed than the Benros and Manfrottos I've compared it to.

At $147, this is a no-brainer if you currently need a light, but solid tripod. The only caveat is that it's matte grey and sky blue on the aluminum bits, so you need to be confident in your style:

If you're reselling a Manfrotto, sure, but otherwise I'd believe the person who has tested lots of tripods side by side, including Manfrottos.

I've now been using this tripod (from that original deal) as my primary tripod for over a month, and it has been excellent. The only minor issue is that the legs don't fold neatly around a ball head on the end, due to a slightly long center column. Only noticeable when you fold it for storage!

Hi, panoguy! I wonder if you could weigh in on a thread I just started concerning this tripod? https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/22-pentax-camera-field-accessories/280149...4c-tripod.html
