Refurbished Sigma 30mm f/1.4 ART at Sigma Outlet: $379!
Posted By: seventysixersfan, 07-25-2014, 09:00 AM

Man I am SO tempted to buy this but Mrs. Seventysixersfan has recently been giving me a LOT of grief about my LBA and so it will be hard to buy this right now. Plus I'm trying to save my pennies for the Sigma 18-35 zoom and I already have this range sort-of covered with my smc-F 28mm f/2.8 and FA 35 f/2. Still, I can't tell you how hard it is for me to pass this up right now. There are some reports of autofocus problems with this lens but apparently if you use center point AF, it's fine, according to this user:
https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/10-pentax-slr-lens-discussion/262745-my-s...rt-review.html

Normally sells for $499 brand-new. So this is a nice discount on a lens that was released for Pentax K-mount only this past spring.

Everyone rev your engines, and... on your marks, get set, go!

(you have click the drop down box to choose mount - Pentax)

PS, I've purchased from the Sigma Outlet before and have been happy with the condition of the product. Carries a 90 day warranty and a return policy of 15 days.

Very attractive price though, I'm not sure how I feel about a refurbished lens - maybe I'm too picky? A great alternative to the FA31 (correct me if I'm wrong), so I'm sure they'll sell out quick! If only my wallet could satisfy my LBA .

There has been a recent thread on FA31 versus Sigma 30 f/1.4 ART, see link below. The consensus seems to be that the FA31 is superior, which I would have assumed, but the better question is, will a $379 Sigma 30 f/1.4 ART provide 90% of what a $700-$1000 FA 31 can do, and are you willing to live with whatever FA limited pixie dust you might be missing--and use the money you saved to buy another lens?

I am curious how many refurbished copies they are making available right now. It could be a very small number. The brand-new lens was just released back in March so I'm surprised to see it already selling in the Sigma Outlet store just 4-5 months later. Could these be customer returns?

For what it's worth-- when I bought my Sigma 50-150 f/2.8 zoom lens from the Sigma Outlet, it came in its original box (NOT a plain white box), with all the accessories included. The lens itself looked brand-new. Remember that this is a factory-refurbished lens, so in theory it is supposedly hand-checked by Sigma technicians to ensure it meets its quality standards and specifications. The only hesitation I had was that the warranty was 90 days and not 4 years, but I haven't had any problems with the lens since I bought it a few years ago.

This seems like a reasonable approach.

Reassuring, thanks for that info!

Checking that thread out now, but check this one out:

Blind test, and a lot of people liked the 30/1.4 over the FA31!

Sold out! Hopefully someone got one as a result of my posting. I am still very interested in this lens and would love to add it to my kit -- might wait to get it used someday....

I'll have to keep watching for this deal - I'm sure it'll pop up again. Meanwhile, I have the original Sigma 30mm f/1.4 in K-mount. I have to decide if the new lens is worth the upgrade.

Eh, may not be worth it. Depends on if you want HSM silent focusing and sharper corners. Otherwise if I were you, I'd just keep the original version and not upgrade, and spend that money on a different focal length lens.

See this comparison between the two different versions:

Yes! It's back in stock. Probably not for long though...

Is it time for me to do my "LBA devil on the shoulder" bit?

I would have a hard time resisting this, if I didn't already have an Art 30...
