Happy to stand corrected, but I understand that the SMC Takumar 85mm f1.8 is optically the same as the SMC Pentax K 85mm f1.8 so both are equally highly regarded.

The reason why I raise this is simply because there are operational differences between the two lenses when used on a Pentax digital body. The M42 mount can be used in Av mode and, on this basis, can be easier to use in comparison to the K series lens (requires the green button metering before each shot). Of course you need the adapter for the M42 lens but you get the wonderful feel of a takumar focus grip as a reward.

Personally I would choose the Tak over the K series lens for these reasons.

You cannot use the Av mode with a K Lens? I thought you could. Anyway the result looks great i think but it is not an autofocus Lens so yeah I guess not everyone can use it easily..

How did they get the hood on with that severely damaged filter ring?

The hood clips on to the outside of the filter thread and the dent is inwards, so I guess it would fit. However I still would not buy this lens due to the dent, which would be hard to fix properly so that you could mount a filter.

Nice, I only paid 290/370Euro for my mint copy a few months back. I love it, sold my Voigtlander 90mm APO to fund it and no regrets.

You can use Av mode but it will only shoot wide open.

Oh ok

The dent is not that bad since it doesn't appear on the photos though it is annoying for filters..

Thanks for that info, Phil. I have the f1.9 screw mount version of that lens and the hood screws into the filter threads on that one.

FWIW I don't think €350 is a particularly great price. $445 seems about average for a damaged K85/1.8.

I have the f1.9 screwmount copy too. It is amazing. I believe that the f1.8 version is a tad sharper and/or is more contrasty due to the improved coatings (i.e. super versus super multi).

But the 1.9 does not give it all away to the 1.8 - it has better bokeh ....

All in all they are all extremely good 85mm lenses (super tak 1.9, SMC Tak 1.8 and K 1.8), hence the asking price when they come up for sale. If I were budget conscious I would probably opt for the 85mm f1.9 copy (screw mount) as the difference are minor with the f1.9 arguably better for what it is designed for - portrait. It normally goes for half the price of an f1.8 (I can't figure out why to be honest as the differences in performance are miniscule).
