The $996 Pentax K-3 + Grip
Posted By: Adam, 10-06-2014, 02:18 PM

Both B&H have made some changes to their K-3 pricing today, and the $996 Pentax K-3 deal has been moved to a body+grip kit:

Pentax K-3 DSLR Camera Body 15530 B&H Photo Video
Pentax K-3 Digital SLR Camera Body 15530

Both include free expedited (2-3 day) shipping.

These kind of great prices showing up everywhere indicate to me a camera at the end of it's sales cycle.

K-3 II (or it's big brother, or both ..) announced soon?

I think RIAC is just trying to stay competitive alongside Nikon at the moment. But you never know...

My thoughts, precisely.

Aside from that, why do these deals so often include a grip? Is it that common, or are they in fact trying to discard an item that is not selling well? I like my gear compact, so I don't need a grip, and I don't want a grip, though I am aware that some people do. A bargain that is built upon an undesirable item greatly detracts for the value of the bargain.

K-3 is not even a year old yet. I would think we would've heard about the K-3II at photokina but who knows.

I would be impressed if they improved upon the K-3 in this short cycle.

Well, the K-3 was announced in October 2013, but we can safely assume the K-3 design and tech was actually developed and then made ready for production months ahead of that. So Ricoh probably already has a K-3 upgrade (and perhaps more) 'in the can' and ready for 2015.

It's early IMO to clear out stock for what I would assume would be an October release, MAYBE a May release.

If they beat May with a K-3II that's improved, then kudos.

Why not make something available that could be purchased for Christmas gifts. Purse strings get fairly loosened at that time.

It's probably because of the release of the Canon 7D Mark II as that camera puts Canon back on top in terms of APS-C bodies with amazing AF, high ISO and 10FPS!

All these freebie deals are either authorized by or offered by RIAC. Authorized details are not allowed to sell the K-3 for less than $996.95, but they can offer additional value for customers by bundling a limited dollar value of freebies.
