USD$9150 seems a touch high. It might be a nice lens, and rare, but still.
I guess it means in future I might be able to offer my M 135/3.5 or K 135/2.5 for close to that price

That seller has quite few very expensive rareties - eg US$ 5,656.16 for an old Nikonos with a few lenses, a NIKON ultra-wide 13mm F2.8 for $4,113.57. Even a NIKON Nikon EM cut model promo for just US$2000. His listings make interesting browsing.

Lets see, 560 for $7k, 135 for $9k. IN cost per mm, the 560 is quite a bit cheaper.... I guess it depends on how you calculate it.

It's not questionable at all when you look at the prices of other supertelephotos that have been recently introduced. The Sony 500 f4 still goes for $13,000 over at B & H. The new Canon 500 f4 sells for $9,500. Older 500mm superteles sell for less, but that's because they're older. New high end lenses cost more to make and market than ever. Keep in mind as well that, according to pre-1980 measurements of inflation, the price level has more than doubled in the last ten years. You can't judge prices on the basis of what lenses were selling for ten, fifteen years ago.

If you want Pentax to produce specialty lenses like high-end supertelephotos, tilt-shift lenses, ultra fast wide angle primes, expect to pay big bucks for them.

If you're buying a collectible as an 'investment', it might be worth that to a select global crowd, who knows.

If you're buying optical performance, though:

Pentax Full Frame K-FF body: $1700 - $3000 (your guess)
Pentax DA or FA 200mm f/2.8 = $1000

= 135mm f/1.8 in aps-c terms = $2700 to $4700, and we're probably talking more MTF, less CA than that 135 1.8 on K3.

And you get a free FF body for that $2700 - $4700!

(personally If I were to buy right now I might buy the FA/DA 200 2.8 used for around $400 - $600 to pair with A7R, it would be MF too.)

I still think the Sigma 500/4.5 is a better value at $5000. Not that I will ever be able to afford either one.

There's a some Da 560 floating on ebay for $3300-4500. In my opinion there's is nothing (I repeat NOTHING) on its range category that can match its IQ and colors available for Pentax to date (FA* 600mm f4 maybe). That makes picking one up the easiest decision in the world..........(you gotta love that)
