xD is it possible that they throw in K-3, grip, 50 1.8, and flash all together for under $1000?!

Well, I'm happy to say that I contacted Helen Oster and she was able to credit me back $100 because of the recent price drop so I'm not feeling bad about jumping on that bundle with the flash + grip.

Do you think BH might be able to work out a similar deal?

Damn, I bought Adorama's K-3 with grip for $996 40 days ago! I could have gotten the 35mm lens for $50 less!

I just received purchase from this special:
K3
Battery grip
DA 20-40mm
540 flash

Cost a bit over $1500. Not a bad deal. I don't know how much I'll use the grip or flash. It's always nice to have a flash. You'll never know when you may need one. As for the grip, I'll the throw it in the suitcase when I travel.

Now if only the buffer write to the card was quicker. I am using class 10, UBS 1, 300x, 45mb sd cards, mirrored.

Possible that a new model may come out next Jan/2015; but the real question is: did they sell all the k-3 inventory they have or did they just make up some story to entice you to buy other brands?

I've always said that the only reason to lower prices that way, beside competiion pressure, is that a new replacement product is coming out to the market.

In a previous post at the beginning of this thread, I also said that based on Pentax's history, is about time to launch an improved version of the "flaship", as it was done with the PZ1-PZ1P, Zx5-ZX5n, ist*-istD, K5-K5II-K5IIs...... all within 18 to 24 months after introduction on new flagship.

Another strong indicator that a new improved flagship is coming, is that the price drop is based around the K3 only ( and some leftover inventory of K5 models) but no price drops on other current models in production.

I am wondering if it would be worth getting one for my upcoming trip to Europe in a little over 2 weeks. Would I get that much of an advantage over my K5?

I just checked B&H site and found that the K5-IIs with a battery grip and 64GB card is now $100 more than the K3 with battery grip.

The USD has risen 15% versus Yen since September. That's something like $150 Retail.

I take this as bad news. This says to me there are plenty of (as in too many) K-3s filling up stockrooms, or else they would have just let the existing lowered price take it until the end of November. It also, unfortunately, tells us there still isn't any demand for them regardless of stock (aside from K-5 and under users wanting to upgrade and stay with Ricoh).

It would be fantastic if it meant we're getting a killer $1,750 camera in Q1, but we can all agree that's not the case.
Look at it the other way. Demand is high enough that the K-3 isn't going to sell below $896 before December 31st.

This is great news! Both for those looking for a new camera or those looking to upgrade. Great price on a fantastic camera.

And it sounds like they are clearing out stocks to open the way for the k-3II, it is about time for a refresh.
I don't think so. I think the body life cycle for Ricoh is two years. A K-50 replacement is much more likely near-term.

About the only thing for sure is that the K3 is unlikely to increase in price any time soon.
