Pentax liquidation sale?

We're being set up for the lens sales during the holiday season.

Wow. $896 for the body AND grip? I've been really happy with my K-50 but man this deal is making me have some serious CBA...

Nice prices, and a long enough time window so we can see what sales develop on Black Friday. I keep telling myself that my K-5 is good enough so my money can go towards a lens and flash instead.

I told myself I'd at least wait until xmas, and just bought some (for me) expensive lenses, but damn. And $50 for the AF-540 flash too. Wish they'd bring down the Silver Edition's price too...

I take this as bad news. This says to me there are plenty of (as in too many) K-3s filling up stockrooms, or else they would have just let the existing lowered price take it until the end of November. It also, unfortunately, tells us there still isn't any demand for them regardless of stock (aside from K-5 and under users wanting to upgrade and stay with Ricoh).

It would be fantastic if it meant we're getting a killer $1,750 camera in Q1, but we can all agree that's not the case.

This is great news! Both for those looking for a new camera or those looking to upgrade. Great price on a fantastic camera.

And it sounds like they are clearing out stocks to open the way for the k-3II, it is about time for a refresh.

A $100 price reduction is never "bad news" for a buyer or potential buyer. It is "good news" because I just received a $100 reduction on my order. My K-3, grip, and flash cost me only $946. 2 months ago it would have cost hundreds more.

So, whatcha going to do about it? Do yourself a favor and upgrade your K-5! Get yourself a killer $1700 camera for $896 now. This is a great deal, regardless of why B&H/Adorama/Ricoh is doing it. It may also be in response to price drops from the competition and not an indication of warehouse overstock or maybe they just want to sell more cameras.

Naturally it's good for potential buyers, of course. And I might finally grab one.

But for the reasons I mentioned I can't see it as anything but a sign they're being dumped, not that it's a response to competition, which they've sadly long ceded to here in the States. Or due to a K-3II coming any time soon. Don't want to take this further off topic. But when a blind test between the K-3 and K-5iis can even be a topic here much less get such a result as it did, you have to make the margin between the them just a few hundred almost regardless of any feature difference, which I don't think was the goal for the K-3 by design.

I really hope Ricoh's next enthusiast/pro DSLR is a big success, not only technically but finally market wise.

I have to keep telling myself that I'm happy with my K-30 and that the price for a K-3 will drop even lower.

I think "success" has less to do with the Pentax bodies, and more to do with the measurables of the lenses... and, most of all, herd mentality among consumers.

I think over the course of the next couple of years Ricoh will do some interesting things with the Pentax brand.

I think I might pull the trigger on a K-3, Q1 2015.
