Thank you, that's another plus. I do however have AA adapter for my K-30 and extra set of Eneloop batteries and do change them quite often as they don't hold for very long. Plus you can just buy them anywhere. With K-5iis, I will probably get an extra battery pack to keep it in the bag just incase.
Since you have both, how does image quality compare between them? (for sharpness/resolution and low light/high ISO)
Thank you!!!

I've been very happy with my K-5IIs - just phenomenal IQ - so much so that I've never even been tempted by the newer K-3. I bought a used K-30 from a great forum member here over a year ago as a backup/second body. Truth be told once I did the fine tune adjustments with it and my DA* lenses it comes very close in IQ - just a tad less than the IIs. But certain things just make me love the IIs - the awesome soft shutter sound, the beautiful build quality, and use of the grip. I do a lot of wildlife photograahy with my DA* 300 and DA* 60-250 and the grip has been essential for my arthritic hands to hold it.

You do realize that the grip for the IIs comes with an AA battery tray, right?

Thank you for the info and your opinion. I was thinking to sell the grip to keep my upgrade cost lower... (but maybe I will keep it)

I don't own any heavy lenses like DA*s and don't think I would like the grip on it as it will make the package much larger and heavier.

What exact setting did you fine tune on K-30 to get IQ better besides "focus +/- for lenses" ?

Thanks for your feedback and the info!!!

Each lens has to be calibrated to each camera for fine tune focus adjustment.

That is a very goo deal.

My "old" K5 is just around the 80,000 clicks on the shutter count, so maybe I should go ahead with this ?
I have been very happy with the K5 and this looks like it (K5IIs) could well perform and last as long.
Then again, there's the K3 out there tempting me.

Does this have the real mechanical sensor stabilisation of the k-5 in video mode?

yep - it's one great camera. i have no intention of replacing it until the FF hits.
I believe that while the K-5 uses mechanical SR during video, the K5II and K5IIs unfortunately dropped this in favor of electronic stabilization during video. I'm happy to be wrong about this.

Holy crap - the 20-40 is $596.95 if it's bundled with either this deal or the K-3. It's almost like Pentax decided to preempt BF.

I was wondering, as I`m still not sure whether I`ve got the cash for this for a couple of days. Would it perhaps pay to wait for any potential Black Friday offers, which I think will be in about 4 or 5 weeks, I think.
As I`m a Brit and this "event" doesn`t happen over here I`m not sure how good the potential deals might be.
Thanks guys

In answer to my own question

It appears that I wont be getting the cash together in time anyway so it looks like the decision has been made.

Never mind eh?

Err..huh? I just tried out video mode with my ear on the camera...the mechanical whirring is definitely there. I'm pretty confident it's mechanical SR. Can I get a back up @Adam?

I'm sick about not being able to get the camera at this price. But, I won't have avail funds for at least another month, so am sooo hoping, they might have this price again before the holidays.

Don't despair. It or an even better deal will almost certainly return, and fairly soon.
