Phew! That's good news, looks like I'll have to "up" my buy date.

The Adorama e-mail I got lists this as one of their "clearance" sales and states that "quantities are limited", which seems to indicate that the model's being discontinued -- sorry if this is old news but I can't remember reading it stated anywhere.

Will this provide a significant boost in IQ over my K30?

That's sure not good news, if it's being discontinued.

Why would that not be good news? Seems like the next logical step for Pentax.... Discontinue the K-5iis as you develop your next product...

Not much. They have the same sensor with a couple of changes, 14 bit raw (instead of 12) and no AA filter on the k5iis. It depends on your definition of 'significant', but imo these are IQ boosts that you pretty much have to go looking for to find. It has a few bits and bobs that are nicer to make life easier, you can check out the comarison tool: Pentax Cameras | Pentax K-5 II / IIs vs. Pentax K-30 - Pentax DSLR Comparison - PentaxForums.com

That said I do love my k5iis. I went from a k100d to a k5iis and it was a noticeable jump in just about all areas. If I had a k30 already, I probably wouldn't have bothered with the k5iis unless I felt like spending money. Your mileage may vary though.

I know he asked specifically about IQ between K-30 and K-5iis, but the low light performance and better AF should be factors as well.... Battery life is a huge difference... You can put a grip onto the K-5iis... Top LCD on the iis..... Tons of improvements over the K-30.

Even if the IQ is the same, everything else is reason enough to upgrade, especially at this price point. (I used to own a K-30, now a K-5ii non s.)

Agreed! Plenty of added goodies.

Debatable on whether it's worth an upgrade or not though- very dependent on whether the individual will make use of the added features and, of course, available money

I just got my K-5iis and still have my K-30 that I really enjoy using. One very good feature is very quiet shutter sound. (will help me a lot in places where loud shutter could be disctracting) I know it's not the one reason for my updgrade, but this and adding potential shaprer imgaes, better autofocus, faster performance, and all toher goodies that come with it. Last year I was thinking of upgrading to K-5ii but changed my mind as image quality would be almost identical. With the "s" model it should be little sharper (based on reviews)

I`ve just taken the plunge and ordered the K5 iis with 50mm 1.8 and 35mm 2.8.
I`ll let you know how it goes regarding final costs including duty`s, vat etc.
I think I have a rough idea of the total but you never really know with these customs guys. It can be a bit of a minefield
