Grumble, grumble, growl, growl. I don't need a second one. I'm not unhappy that I paid a lot more than this. But there's some really fun colors out there. If the price of all of them drop by Boxing Day, I will have a really tough time telling myself no. I do NOT need another K-S1. But the one I have is so much fun! Don't keep tempting me, it's not good for my pocketbook!

I think the manufacturers are using them as loss leaders to drive sales of lenses and other accessories.

I don't think that slapping outrageous prices on a camera helps to positively develop your brand (see Hasselblad's abominations from this past year).

Hopefully someone more versed in this business stuff can chime in.

Well the price has gone up again today on the black model (white is still available at a lower price). I'm still very tempted by the deal at Adorama, which now includes a free FluCard, as well as the option to throw in a discounted lens.

I'm not certain if Ricoh is using these as a loss leader to sell lenses and other accessories. I don't think the K-S1 is really aimed at the readers of this forum. I suspect most will be sold with just the kit zoom, which will likely stay on the camera.

You never bought an original, magnesium-alloy bodied Q at $200 (down from $800)? You missed out!
I had to really resist the urge to enter the Q system. I finally rationalized that my MX-1 was "good enough" as a substitute for the Q.

Yeah, that is a good deal, probably better than the Amazon one assuming you were planning on getting the FluCard anyway.

You and a couple of other folks in the K-S1 thread have been making an excellent case for acquiring one... and now I'm interested in possibly getting two!

I have been really wanting this camera but just purchased a K3. The price on it was just too good. The image quality I am seeing is just too darn good. When the inevitable price drop occurs it is going to be real hard to resist one of these little gems.

In 2012 I rebooted my photography interests and have purchased way too much. You people are nothing but a bunch of enablers. Since joining this forum in early 2012 I have purchased a K5, K5-IIs, MX-1, K3, Pentax 12-24 DA, Sigma 17-70 and a Tamron 70-200 f2.8. Plus filters, memory cards, remotes, extra batteries etc. Not just stop it, top it, stop it!

The black body's price has been bouncing around on Amazon, but this morning it is $435, subject to change.

True dat...

I just got a second body - a red K-50 with a flu card for my red headed bride. The K-3 is proving challenging for her (me too - but I fear not), so I think the k-50 will be easier and more like what she was used to with our old Olympus 520. With the flu card she won't complain as much about the camera on her cell phone (I can save by not replacing the phone - right?)....

Best of all with the K-50 we can swap lenses....
