Anyone ever try to get one of these serviced in the US? I'm curious what happens.

My research on the web shows "Abes of Maine" are a bunch of unscrupulous carpetbaggers. Stay far away.........

^^ is right, you'll never actually get it at that price. Just look at all the yelp review of the place, seems horrible.

It's gray market. Who knows where the warranty would be honored...

Gray market vs. menu language choice

"Gray" means direct import from Japan? My friends are curious if body menu is available only in Japanese and English (no European languages) in that case? Anybody had chance to check? If so, how to get into Pentax service mode in the body to play around?

I believe the camera itself is the same, the big issue is that it does not qualify for warranty repairs.

Why

Why do keep on tempting me? I want a U.S. version at this price from B&H or Adorama, or perhaps Hunt's.

Shop there once, bought a flash. Abe's of Maine sent me a maybe $10-worth toy instead of the model shoed in photos (very vague description in the list BTW, but I can tell clearly from pictures). I called and wanted a replacement, and was told that was the model they were selling. I requested to talk to manager, and the manager told me same story. I pointed out the photos showed another model, and the manager said the photos were just photos. refunded me $10 for the mistake, but they could not take return.
Terrible experience, at least 10 years ago. And was my once shopping experience with them. They might have changed though.

The bigger issue is if you buy from Abe's of Maine you will get screwed. End of story.

Buy the camera for $655 from popflash and get a USA warranty. They are a Pentax authorized dealer. Look for them on Ebay. They list it for $796 but they will take your offer of $655 like they did for me.
