A $1000 for this Lens?

I've been looking for an FA 20-35 and after a couple weeks, finally happened upon this one on e-Bay.

Pentax FA 20 35mm F4 Al Excellent from Japan 24 B62 | eBay

It's a beautiful looking copy, but I was stunned by the price....

I was expecting 1/2 that, maybe even less based upon the rough average in the lens review.

Will this be the new normal for film-era lenses now that people are anticipating the Pentax full frame?

I'd be curious is this is what other folks are seeing or if this is just an unusually expensive example.

It isn't worth nearly as much IMO.

Price gouging because of the recent FF announcement? (This will be a popular lens for the new full frame DSLR.)

I just got one (with case & hood) a couple months back and paid under $400.00.

I saw one sold NIB/NOS from Dealer stock in St. Louis 18 months ago for $665 - that included warranty and it was pristine.

I think the Japan market tends to overprice used lenses more easily..

I got mine from Japan in like new condition for $350 6 months ago. Prices on Yahoo auctions are indicative of the Japanese used market prices, prices on EBay for From Japan lenses are indicative of what a subset of Japanese sellers think US buyers will pay

People can list at any price they want on eBay.

I had this book on making hats that I sold on eBay.

Someone on eBay had a copy that they kept relisting at a Buy It Now price of $75.

I sold mine through an auction for $11.

In the case of this lens, I have looked at recent listings and they are typically going for less than $400.

I wouldn't. There are plenty of example of this sort of eBay overpricing going back years. You probably know the phrase misattributed to P.T. Barnum...

It's a really nice lens but that's ridiculous.

I honestly wonder who they expect will pay that kind of money.
I mean, I love my FA 20-35, but I doubt it cost that even brand new.

Price gouging, or simply no idea what it's worth?
