Just wondering if there are any users who've compared the Siggy 17-50 to its Tammy counterpart on a pentax and if they noticed an advantage of one over the other outside of the HSM

Thanks for the link to the review. The review doesn't seem to indicate that the sigma outshines the Tamron, although wide open the sigma faired better. So, I wonder if anyone else has had a chance to compare and what they thought about the IQ differences

That 17-50 goes for almost half that on fleabay used from Japan. Never bough from used Japan, but I figure for that much savings, I can deal with a few dust specs that I'd surely accumulate myself in a new one.

there was a patent issue in Japan, because of which the Sigma goes really cheap there.

that makes sense. But it's the same quality lens that one would get in the US?

The Sigma isn't way sharper. The Tamron is excellent. The sigma was marginally sharper, weighs more, but has hsm. The Tamron is fast focusing, louder screw drive, and sometimes has ff/bf issues.
