Just in case somebody is looking for a 645Z for parts
Posted By: jhaji, 05-21-2015, 06:28 AM

Or as a bookend

Pentax 645Z 51MP SLR Digital Camera w/ 3" LCD Body Black for Parts 204652 KS

It's a shame something as versatile as this went thru this degree of abuse.

For what it's worth......I have heard from the seller, Karensbarn. I'm told there is corrosion in the battery compartment...and that she is unable to get the front body cap off.....maybe that's a good sign? Maybe not.....

There is some mention in the listing of the buttons being very hard to push. It could be that the lens release button is gummed up and keeping her from unlocking the cap. The big question is whether it had a cap or lens on it when it took its dunk. If the mirror box flooded, it's likely all over. The fact that water apparently got into the nominally sealed battery compartment is not the most encouraging sign..

Maybe the seller hasn't tried rotating it? I can't imagine a plastic cap getting that stuck against a metal mount... unless... does that style of cap lock on and need to have the lens release button pushed to come off?

At its current bid, I would want to see the insides at this point before buying a possible $260 bookend

It's a resale. I wonder if the original owner considered repair before selling it, or they had such good insurance that they just turned it over to the insurance company who in turn sold it as scrap. What's amazing is that no one bothered cleaning off the salt deposits. Salt will continue inflicting more damage.

Whoever buys it, pls do a photo report of what you saw when you bought the item. Particularly inside the camera. Should be interesting camera gore.

Done! $806 is a pretty good deal for someone, if there's something salvageable under all that.

Went about $150 above my max bid. If someone here bought it and decides it's beyond your ability to fix, I'd be willing to pay my max bid to take it off your hands.

wasn't me.....while it would be a fun project, I just don't think it's $806 worth of fun....

Winning bidder has placed bids on 26 items in the digital camera section of eBay in the last 30-days. A relatively low feedback score of 156, so looks to be fairly new if regularly bidding at that rate.

Simple enough.
1) Click on the link to open the listing.
2) Click on number of bids after winning bid: [26 bids].
3) Click on winning bidders coded name: [1***1]
You should see a list of his/her bidding details.

I noticed similar buyers when the wave of 'broken' gear went through ebay a few months ago.. there were a couple people buying a ton of the bodies and lenses up.. I even got sniped a few times in the last 2 seconds by them a couple of times. My guess is they were going to tear them down and sell them for parts. But I haven't really seen much of that yet. Then again, I haven't really looked recently..
