That would be odd... a Pentax fan ordering a Pentax fan.

The past several responses to this thread are so funny!

Anyway, as an update-- Woot replied to me by email (I believe they have no live human being you can actually talk to) and gave me an RMA number to return the incorrect lens. I have a funny feeling that I'll be responsible for paying the return shipping charge, which is a bit frustrating, but maybe I will be refunded the fees as part of the product refund? Has anyone had experience with returning things to Woot that were either defective or was clearly a mistaken shipment on their part-- did you get a prepaid shipping label, or need to pay for the return shipping and never got reimbursed for it?

I got a label. This is the response I got after telling them the Q7 was broken:

Thank you for taking the time to email us. We appreciate your concerns as well as your business.

I apologize for the defective item you received. Unfortunately, we are unable to offer a replacement at this time. I've gone ahead and initiated an RMA for your order and created a prepaid return label. You should be receiving it in a separate email. Your RMA# is XXXXXXX. Please make sure that the number is included on the package. Once we've received the order, a refund will be issued within 7-10 business days.

Please provide a copy of the return label inside the box. You will not need to include a packaging slip.

That's really helpful, thank you @vonBaloney. I will follow-up with Woot-- their email gave me the RMA but did NOT say anything about a prepaid return label that would be forthcoming.

Since Woot is owned by Amazon, you would think returns would be easy, and with free return shipping, but I've never returned an item to them.

In their email they offered me either an RMA or a $25 refund if I wanted to keep the lens. Needless to say, I opted for the former.

I don't remember if there was something to directly initiate a return (maybe of a non-defective item, in which case they may expect you to pay shipping), but my method of initial contact was their contact form choosing "Topic: I have a problem with something I bought". The note above was signed "Josh" from Woot Member Services. I think it is usually helpful to contact these companies in such a way (if possible) that a human will be forced to read it to know what you want...

OK so my DA* 16-50mm arrived a bit ago. Was severely underwrapped, coming in the stock box inside a padded white bubble mailer. The box had a ding in the corner. The lens itself looks like it made it through the ordeal unscathed and actually is in great shape. Everything was in the box including caps, hood, and pouch.
My used-like-new K-30 arrived from KEH this morning (see my new signature); FedEx had promised it by Friday - they did better than that! The camera box was inside a 12"x12"x12" box, with lots of good padding. FedEx apprently took good care of the box - neither the outer box nor the inner box showed any sign of "wear". Of course, the proof will be in the using, and the battery is still charging, but so far KEH gets very high marks for this transaction.

Added: EXIF reported the shutter count as 3 on the first picture I took!

KEH does a great job shipping stuff to me. Everything I've ordered has been double-wrapped, with padding/airbags in the box and bubble wrap around the article. One time they even sent me a free sticker

Woot only accepts defective/not as advertised items for return.

Wow, I'm late to the party and they sold out of anything I'd be likely to buy. Actually maybe that is a good thing.

That's why you need to be obsessively checking the price watch thread every day to make sure you don't miss out on some great deals! Or perhaps NOT, if you want to control LBA...

I'm hoping it's in remission, at least for a little while! One day at a time.
