Any guess as to what their interpretation of "factory reconditioned" means? Do you think these actually came through Ricoh?

Comes with 90 days Pentax warranty so factory reconditioned must mean Ricoh was involved. Excellent prices -- just might need to pick up a da* 16-50

The Da 55-300 description is HD and WR but the picture is the original SMC green band version.

I've bought countless items from Woot! and I've never had a problem.

Based on my experience with refurb products, I'd say that at least the K-30s are new.

Wow, those are pretty good prices! Ricoh must be clearing out inventory to make room for new FF gear.

Even if you ended up having to convert the * lenses to screw drive those prices are incredible. Wow. You could get a K-30 and two of Pentax's pro zooms for $1169.97.

At $179, the DA 55-300 WR seems worth a try. I wonder how long it would take to actually receive the lens. Woot says "ships in 3-6 days" and standard shipping (the only option) indicates 3-8 days after that. I suspect I won't be home to receive the package.

is it too much to hope that if the SDM lenses on this sale have been reconditioned recently, that means the SDM problem is fixed on these lenses?

Despite my rabid LBA and this great price, I am deciding against getting the DA* 16-50, as I already have a DA 16-45 and DA 20-40mm limited. I'm still too wary of SDM problems and from what I've read, the image quality of the DA 16-45 may be close enough to the DA 16-50 and the lens is a lot lighter/smaller; of course, the DA* zoom's build quality is far better and WR, but that's what I get with the DA 20-40 anyway.

My concern here would be that woot might not be as generous as the usual big retailers about taking back a lens as defective that you're not happy with for performance reasons like decentering. That's not something that's easily tested for - it's not like a lens element has fallen out or the lens has some other obvious physical defect. In my experience this is the biggest issue with lenses; not just Pentax but others as well. Sometimes you have to try several times or more to get a good copy. While these prices are extremely attractive, round-trip shipping and the 15% restock charges can add up pretty quickly.

As for factory reconditioning, since Pentax and other manufacturers let bad lenses out of their factories n the first place, my guess is that at least some issues aren't addressed during "reconditioning." It might be more likely for a camera body to have an issue that can be addressed - a switch or button fails or falls off, for example - while with lenses, you might more likely be stuck with a lens that wasn't good enough for somebody else.

Wow. Probably good that I'm broke right now. I bought a (new) Q7 from Woot that was DOA, returned it with no problem. And then bought another one a little later from them also (that works fine)....
