I love when big glass hits the market, since I always know Clinton is going to make an appearance.

Is there anything left for you to hunt these days, or is your collection complete?

Ha, just noticed how old the thread was!

It would probably be worth the Fred Miranda subscription price to list it there - I imagine there are several Canonistas there who would be happy to take it off your hands.

I live part time in Canada and part time in the US. I have an Absolute MINT Condition FA* 250-600mm IF ED to sell. Even the metal carrying case is like brand new! eBay and PayPal fees have gotten pretty crazy these days, almost $1,000 on this lens. Where is the best place to sell it and what is the safest payment option?

I dont understand why it would be as much as 1000$ for that lens ? isn't 2.9% for the paypal fees ?

why are you selling it?

I'm just doing what I can to dig up a little cash. My employer cut my wages 1/3 last year only seven months after getting married and buying a new house. Also, have her two kids to help support now and my savings is almost depleted.

If you do end up on ebay, it is worth opening a "store" temporarily even if you only have that one item to sell. For camera lenses, the "store" final value fee is 6% (I think, might be 7%) instead of 10%, and the store only costs $20/mo, so if you're going to sell something for thousands that will save you...

Wow! is this depending of the value of the item being sold ?

Actually, come to think of it, I think the final value fee has a cap anyway, doesn't it? (I'm thinking $250, but I could be wrong.) But anyway, the normal fee rate is 10% (and you still get hit with PayPal fees on top of that). But the rates if you have a store are better, and they vary depending on the category. Camera lenses are 6% I think. So it is only worth it if you sell more than $500 a month (because of the store fee itself), but you can get it month-to-month, so no reason you can't get the rate for one high-ticket item. (Just open the store before you list it.) But yeah, I'm pretty sure there is a cap on the fee -- double-check that...

Thank you for the tip. I had used the fee estimation tool without having a store and it was a total of $750.50 in fees at $7,750 selling price. I would rather sell it here for $7,000, but if I have to go to eBay then I will open a store to save some $$$.

The one B&H had for $4995 was ugly, scratched up and covered with tape. Mine is MINT and is now listed in the Marketplace on this forum.

anybody close to lens coat to get a lens coat for the FA* 250-600? Thats the only thing missing! Maybe to much for my copy but for one of those Mints out there (would keep its value).
I have the camo form tape on mine but its getting annoying and moves back and forth up and down... I took the time to make it nice and cut some windows for the Zoom and Focus but its just not like the lens coat stuff.

On Mine I use to put some Cohesive tape/Wrap , bought cheap from Amazon. The advantage is that it doesn't leave any glue, and can be removed or changed in color with the seasons(camo for summer, whit for winter. I use that on all my long lenses, and tripod legs and gimbal/head to be more stealth while chasing wildlife...
the camo one can be found cheap on amazon or eBay
Amazon.com: 3" by 5yds Cohesive Wrap - CAMO: Health & Personal Care

the white one, go to you horse / equine shop, they use that as bandages, and is cheap too (2-3$ per roll)

On my 250-600mm, I also cover it with the lenscoat Raincoat 2 Pro Large Size (I kept the cohesive tape on the lens to protect from any bumps, it's like a little padding)
RainCoats & RainCaps - LensCoat
I have one with Real Tree Max4 for the summer, and one Real Tree AP Snow for winter time
I also got the RainCap in each flavor (because the OEM lens cap is a bit complicated , too bulky to bring in the field, I keep it in the transport box in the car)
