Can't say, but when i switched from Sigma 150-500 to this one, the difference IQ , color etc was HUGE!

This lens can also make nice macro-like shots @600mm btw... ;-)

How is the lens not sold yet?

Has anyone called to check on it?

A sigma 150-600 plus a D810 is a cheaper combination. Any idea as to how the lenses compare?
I expect the sigma is budget and produces budget results while the Pentax isn't budget and produces pro results, but then again, I don't have a 150-600 to play with. I have a bigma and it's great, until you use pro gear.

Re: performance of the 250-600 ...... well I can't speak of the Sigma 150-600, but I can speak of another comparison.

The FA*250-600 performs marginally better than my F*300 at 300mm @f5.6 (for both lenses). Also, I had opportunity to compare with the DA*300 the other day (really quick comparison) and again, the FA*250-600 had superior results.

The FA*250-600 is really hard to handle (if mobile) but in my opinion it is worth the handling trauma - it is producing pro grade quality!

The rumored price for Nikon 200-500 F5.6 is below $1500( as worked with Tamron)..

Nice price point. Comparisons are inevitable - it will be interesting to compare.

I've been watching for copies of this lens for years, not that I can afford it, but last time I saw one at $5000 i was prepared to jump in my car and drive 200 miles to pick it up. Someone else beat me to it. Unfortunately, the Canadian dollar being what it is, this one is $6000 for me, not $5000, and a string of unfortunate events means it'll be a year or two before I start looking again.

Yes, these are not going cheap. I bought mine from a recent PF advertisement for market price - although I got a good deal as I didn't have to 'import' and pay ridiculous taxes.

norm - I hope you have a windfall or two to turn the tide.

Norm, with the current exchange rate, it would be closer to 30% more, so 6500$ + import fees (another 10-15%), so it would make more that 7000 CAN$...

the current exchange rate is discouraging us to buy outside of Canada...

The polar opposite of the 40mm XS in every way related to portability and compactness of profile. Bundled together they would make the perfect "odd couple".
