Almost free Canon photo printer
Posted By: Adam, 08-11-2015, 12:19 PM

I love these deals when they're available. You can essentially get this Canon printer for $11 if you count the value of the free paper that's included:

Canon PRO 100 PIXMA Wireless Professional Inkjet Photo 6228B002

Remember to use the promo code shown below at checkout.

Regular price: $399.99
Final price w/ $100 off promo code PSWBH15 at checkout: $299.99
Mail in rebate: $250 (amex card)
Final cost: $49.99
Free paper value: $38.41
Net printer price: $11.58

NB: the $100 off promo code expires 8/16

Does Canon use smaller ink cartridge with new printers or is it the same size as what you would normally buy? Some believe that the ink cartridges that you get with a new printer are actually smaller than those you would usually buy. I don't know how accurate that belief is.
No Canon doesn't, you get full-sized cartridges with the PRO-100.

I don't recall the specifics of this fee, but it's not very much.
It doesn't start until 6 months. I used the card for groceries, worked perfectly.

I did the same. I got the printer with a 70D bundle for $1150 with $350 rebate. Sold the printer to a co-worker for $100 and he says it is awesome - 8 colors...

Looks like no. From the bottom of the rebate form:

"Terms of offer: Offer good in the 50 United States, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico, on products purchased by an end-user customer from a participating Authorized
Canon Dealer only"

What are the chances of not getting the rebate? Anyone ever faced something like that? I want to buy this but I have a bad experience with mail in rebates.

That is how I got mine. I local photog bought a 5D mkIII and the printer came bundled. She already had a Pro-1, so she sold the printer to me for $100.

Thanks for posting this link. The cost per print is somewhat higher than having them done at Walgreens or Costco, but you have the benefit of greater control of the final product and a broader choice of papers.

B&H also is selling the PRO-10 and PRO-1 for $250 and $450 respectively if you use the code mentioned by Adam. Both use pigment ink, instead of the dye ink in the PRO-100.
This one probably is worth a thread of its own. Those are very good prices. There is a lot of discussion of pigment vs. dye inks with the main concerns being permanence and choice of papers. Imaging Resources compared the PRO-100 to the other two units and included those findings in their review:

If you add the shipping / gas cost to that, it will be the same if not cheaper. And as you've said, you get the benefit of greater control. However, if you don't print often, then you better stick with a printing service instead because you'll end up paying more for the ink each time your printer starts.

Thanks for the post, but the math is wrong. Net costs of printer minus the paper is actually $111.58. If it was $11.58 it would really be an incredible deal because at the cost of ink it would be like getting your first refill free.

No, the math isn't wrong. Pretty sure 299.99 minus 250 is 49.99.

Yup, that promo code makes this an amazing deal. Remember that it expires on 8/16.
