I've heard of markups, but this is ridiculous!

NEW Pentax SMC FA 77mm F1 8 Limited Lens 1 Year Warranty Black | eBay

NEW Sigma 18 250mm F 3 5 6 3 DC OS HSM Lens FOR Pentax 1 Year Warranty 085126883614 | eBay

Each will set you back over six thousand US dollars. They must really have knocked over the pixie-dust jar on those two.

I wonder what sort of fools will be parted from their money for this.

This next one is probably more worth the price for rarity if nothing else:

NEW Pentax LX 2000 KIT Body A 50mm F 1 2 Lens Year 2000 Limited 175 | eBay

I WANT THIS SO BADLY. But not at that price.

It probably means it is not in stock.
Is it the lazy way of running an estore: instead of removing the item and having to enter it again when back in stock, just make the price ridiculous so it can be just changed back again later.
I have seen unbelievably high prices before and that's my take on it.

Either way, it doesn't inspire me to buy from them.

We in Australia we have sellers based in the UK selling on our site with Pentax lenses selling for double or triple of what the Aust based stores sell them for, seems very odd but they have been doing it for a long long time, cannot imaging they get any sales so the point of it is beyond me.

Pentax SMC DA 16 50mm F 2 8 ED AL IF SDM Lens 027075129252 | eBay

Selling for $2,519.50. Yet they have over 20,000 listing in Camera section alone, all brands!.

Interesting that the FA 77mm link shows 3 available and 2 sold. Clicking on the sold items, the prices were US $865.00 and US $871.78.

Pretty much what rod said. Ebay sellers who have a store or powersellers will not remove an item page simply for the fact that it's MUCH easier to just change the price to astronomical prices to where no one would even consider it. It's basically just a placeholder so when they do get the item again all they have to do is change the price and BAM! ..done. That's why you ALWAYS do research on it BEFORE you buy anything wether on Ebay or whatever, but you'ld be surprised how many people don't. Of course there is always some "Too Rich for own good" who thinks it's now a collectible or something and buys it. Therefore if someone does buy it.. seller just buys another from somewhere else and sends that with instant profit. I used to sell alot on ebay

It's a bit like those taxi drivers who every now and then score a fare from someone who wants them to drive to a city several hundred miles away and is willing to pay whatever it costs. One that I recall said basically "...and then I was required to keep the meter running while he gambled in a casino and then I drove him back."

Another common issue is when a seller enters an item and forgets to select the right currency giving their price in USD that was meant to be in a less valued currency.

Yeah, that was the other possibility that occurred, that it really ought to be in Hong Kong dollars. $6000 HKD is about $770 US, which is far more within the bounds of reason and would make the LX kit a steal.

I agree it's in HKD. The first time I saw that it blew me away!

And here I thought it was for money laundering.
Sell items at high prices to get the money "on the books" .....

Stranger things have happened!
