K 400/5.6 (Ex) on ebay

Would've much rather had this than the 3rd party ones that I picked up.

He goes long!*

* but he dropped the ball by $0.50 on the 80mm metal slip on lens cap listed separately.

Still ended up going for a song - $165.50. Hard to believe.

Yeah the lens is worth more than that!

The K400 does have a manual diaphragm, which the M & A versions don't. That and no hard case and no international shipping may have been a factor in selling the lens at such a low price.

I'll no doubt eventually spend the 'savings' on a gimbal head. Thankfully I can get a 77mm snap on lens cap (assuming the filter threads will accept the spring-fingers) and I already have filters.

I'm actually salivating to try this with my Q/Q7.

Oh I did not realize you bought the K400 Paul, nice pickup!

You have to use the metal slip-on lens cap, as the hood will block you using a clip-on cap. Mine did not come with a lens case either and I managed to find one on eBay.

Nice lens you should have fun with it.

I've also noticed a lot of lenses either aren't selling here or are going for bargain rates. I'm not sure why, but I'll speculate on a few things. First is the economy. Yes, it's only been a week since the big market place dump, but the market has been on a roller coaster all year with uncertainty in China and Greece and consumers have tightened up on discretionary spending. Second is people saving up money for the anticipated full frame or possibly the rumored K3 replacement next spring. Last, we've seen a lot of users switch to other brands in the past year, which has driven down demand. Even Pentax/Ricoh has offered some killer deals.

Still, $165.50 for this lens has got to be the bargain of month, if not the year.

All I have to say is these legacy lens / legacy body prices have blown my K-ff budget out to 2017. And it doesn' bother me at all.

I think I sold mine for $250 a couple of years ago and felt like that was low!

Oops! I suppose 'He Goes Long' was overly subtle as a play on words.

I remember when $165 was fair for a K50/1.4. I gladly paid $350 for a K35/3.5 when I had the opportunity in 1999 because they simply weren't available to buy. Now you can't sell one.

I think a lot of it has to also do with the fact that there is so much surplus film camera gear out there that people perceive it as cheap stuff.

It's only a bad market if you're a seller.
