D FA 50mm now just $280!

I didn't think the Pentax 50mm macro could go any lower, but B&H currently lists it for just 280.70!

I hope Pentax has decided to not compete with Nikon lens prices just quality when they release the FF.

Feel tempted to put my Sigma 50mm macro for sale and buy this one to replace it.

544 dollars (329 pounds) in the UK. Bad enough when it's 1 for 1 (dollar to pound), but this ridiculous. Haven't seen any price falls over here from Pentax. I wonder whether our prices will follow the USA ...?

Last winter it could be bought on discount at 200$ CAN in a BC shop.... but limited qty...this is the lowest price since...
grab one while it's available, it's a very good lens!

I paid a bit more than this for a used copy from KEH during one of their sales. It's a really sharp lens! I use it for camera-scanning my films. Perfect!

I think Ricoh is trying to spread the K-mount to as many people as possible, especially with these FF lenses. This makes the upgrade path to the upcoming FF body more tempting. Something similar is happening with the D-FA 100mm WR macro lens.

I think this too.. even if it isn't their reasoning, I think we can all agree it is quite welcome! After years of inflated, rollercoaster pricing, Ricoh appears to be relaxing lens prices over a longer timeframe.

I've thought about switching my 35 and 50mm primes to Macro versions.. for whatever technical reason, they seem to be very sharp even at max aperture... Macro lenses, that is. Plus less distortion.. I'll trade a bit of speed for those any day! The bonus is these are D-FA so they won't have to be swapped if one ever moves to a FF system either.

Yeah, Pentax pisses me right off with their UK pricing.
I`m buying nothing else until the cost becomes more reasonable.
i.e. more comparable

£430 from the Pentax Web Store...yeah, bargain at around $680
U.S. Web store $350

Yeah. And its been like this for years. But one thing to keep in mind is that US prices usually don't include taxes, those get added later, when you pay. In Europe, the price you see is the final price, taxes and all. There is still a big gap, though.
Someone could buy a couple in the US, bring them to Europe, and sell them to cover their vacation lol

Edit: To be clear- I am not saying the US prices should be higher. I just wish I had similar prices over here.

I knew you weren't being vindictive, just wishing you had these bargain prices.

I am going nuts too, we spent money on an anniversary cruise and cataract surgery, so no more lenses until the end of the year. I will buy the 55-300 then.

This is the macro that finally stopped me searching for macros. Compact, fast enough, quick shift, film-frame compatible. Oh yeah - great images too!

Taxes into the UK 20% VAT and no other duties for photographic equipment.
At least that was the case last November when I imported my K5 iis
