How long do you think these deals will be good for? I am looking for a good 16-85

I don't think anyone here officially knows.. but if you miss the sales now, they should be back at the end of November (Black Friday!)..

I might have to just bite the bullet and jump on it... I am planning a trip... I am yet undecided if I want or need the 16-85 but I will probably get it anyway.

What were the other options on your list?

Either sticking with what I have which is option 1. Option 2 is the 16-85. Option 3 is the 18-135.

I am not sure of the latter of the two... how they compare... I am not sure of the 16-85 is substantially better than the 18-135 or not.

I am not a huge zoom user (in fact not really at all) but when I am running around Africa it might be a good thing to have 'just in case'.

I have plenty of lenses that I am more than happy with. Just thinking about throwing a zoom into the mix for 'just in case'.

Ahh.. so Safari.. yes a zoom would be nice to toss in the bag. Not sure what you have in your kit but might you be better served with a longer focal length zoom? 55-300 ? or even 50-500?

I have the 16-50 and the 18-135. 16mm is quite more wide than 18mm even though it only seems on paper that a paltry 2mm isn't much... it is.

The 18-135 gets soft after 70mm. But it is smaller and lighter (than even the 16-85)

so there are tradeoffs. Between the two, I'd grab the 16-85. But if I was going on safari, I'd grab a telephoto such as the 55-300 WR

It's not going to be a safari to speak of. I don't plan to go out into the bush that often but it is a possibility. I've done the safari thing a couple times. I have friends over there so I will just go run around the cities and just go wander around some.

Some of these prices are already lower than last year's black friday prices

Prices sometimes fluctuate weekly, and possibly daily if they're for a special event. Otherwise I would expect this pricing to continue until the end of the month, which is when old rebates typically expire and new rebates are launched (if any).

That doesn't mean that this year's black friday prices won't be even lower

My personal prediction is that we'll see most of our BF deals in the camera department, since there have yet to be any massive sales (with the exception of the outgoing K-50, which fell slowly). There would be a lot of room for savings on the K-3 and K-S1, and to an extent the K-3 II and K-S2 as well.

Yes, I too am expecting a blowout of remaining K-3 bodies much like the K-5 II blowout a couple of years ago. Will be interesting to see how low the K-3 II goes as well with the FF digi taking up the limelight.

Probably as low as the K-5 IIs, eventually ($499 to $599). This year I think we might see it for $599 or $649 at authorized dealers.

When does the next deal round-up come out? I ask this because I tried to buy a lens tonight from B&H for a great price, but could not due to holiday. Can't order until Tuesday evening. What are the chances that the price goes higher before I can order this lens?

I'm thinking lower.. 499 to 599 body only with the 18-135 kits for 800... just like the K-5II price when they wanted to get rid of them. Will be interesting to see though.

No one here knows.. they might give us sale prices in October or they might just wait until the end of November (BF).

If they are the only ones with that price then I'd take a screenshot of the item in your shopping cart with the date, time, and price listed.. then contact BH customer support in 43 and a half hours when they reopen IF the price has changed and see if they are willing to accommodate you.
