According to everything I've seen posted here, those issues were fixed years ago.

The price of this lens has now fallen to a point almost as low as what I paid for it as part of a K200D bundle along with the 50-135. That was 2008 and the 16-50 part of the kit was about $700. The SDM was reportedly fixed when Ricoh came on board. If you have any real interest in this lens, now's to time to pull the trigger.

I purchased one earlier this year from an open box buy. So far it has performed flawlessly and I love my copy. The price I paid was much lower than this but at this price it does become more of a reasonable buy. I think there were always be some issues with SDM, but most complaints now seem to be it's slow focusing speed. I use mine primarily for landscapes so that is not an issue for me.

hmmm... indeed tempting ...

my use would be mostly landspace as well, though not sure how much a F2.8 would be useful to me

The only time I really shoot at f2.8 is indoors in low light or when I want a really shallow depth of field. My experience has been that this lens really peaks at around f6 or so.
