Many, many moons ago, when the FA 77/1.8 Ltd was first released (just like the FA 43/1.9 LTD before it), it was available only in silver trim. Then, when the 77 was finally released in black, the going price for it was higher for some time.
[I believe both the 43 and the 77 were each available only in silver for a year or two before black versions were released.] [I do not remember the exact prices, the exact differential, or the duration of the difference.]
I just assumed it was a simple supply and demand situation -- the black ones were more of a novelty at first, and they went for a premium price.
[The fact that the black 77 was more elegant than the silver one, IMHO (YMMV, of course), made it worth paying the premium at the time, and I bought a black 77 and sold my silver one quite willingly.
