Why sad? It benefits Goodwill, which in turn benefits people who don't have much. It would be sadder to see it go for a small amount. Thanks for posting the link, boriscleto!

BTW, many times items are donated by people who don't know/ don't care about their current value. This possibly belonged to someone's photography-oriented parent who passed away without saying what it was. Now its just "some big heavy thing that takes pictures." (Really, if you think about it, that's all we have in our gear closets, and only us Pentaxians ascribe value to them.)

Goodwill is an evil, evil organization and does very little to help the poor/disabled. Basically it exploits loopholes in the labor laws to pay it's employees under the guise of a "jobs training program" while paying them as little as 20 cents per hour.
Must be very different in the states. Of course, labor laws and social services are even more different up here...

Employers can pay workers with disabilities less than minimum wage. It's part of a law passed in 1938. Goodwill isn't the only company that exploits this law.

Well, I have no clue whether Goodwill is or isn't evil. I tend to view all of human endeavors through a biological lens rather than a moral one, so if they provide jobs for people who would otherwise be jobless and obtaining complete support from welfare, good for them.

The camera is a great one. This one comes with the rare battery grip, which is essential to make the camera usable since Pentax woefully underpowered it. Even so, there's no way I'd bid on it now, as the ad clearly states no returns of any kind will be allowed. I'd gamble on a hundred bucks, not 400+

I know several people who have been helped tremendously by Goodwill. No one is flawless, but Goodwill isn't any more crass than any other employer.

Strange thing to say. Although simply not knowing the value is likely and happens often, some people knowingly and gladly donate high-value things all the time. (Or things that they don't care if they are high-value or not, because "high-value" to them is probably much higher than to the rest of us.) That's kinda the point of donating things -- so that revenue is generated for the cause, not just to get rid of your trash. (And of course they can write it off on your taxes if they want.)

I help manage an annual sale where all the proceeds go to local charities. Every year we get things that sell for more than a thousand dollars that the donor did not want a tax receipt for.

Some folks believe in charity.

The whole point of altruism is to give selflessly. Just because you wouldn't doesn't make it not true.

Dude.

I am the Board Treasurer of a non-profit. I just received a donation of a large collection of rare items which are not germane to our mission. The donor and I and our outside consultants are negotiating an appraisal protocol for tax purposes, then the Board is free to do as we wish with the collection.

This camera and lens is a crap shoot.

Yesterday I emailed their customer service department some questions on this outfit, so far no answer... Also I called their customer service number twice, they will not answer the phone. Seems to me they might be trying to hide something on this.

They aren't trying to hide anything. They simply don't know anything about cameras. Yesterday I saw a listing for a "professional" Pentax kit. A KX and a P30 plus some cheap lenses. The P30 was listed as a DEd...
