I am ridiculously tempted to buy this lens and redo it in silver, but I think I have too much money tied up elsewhere at the moment.......
Buy it, do it silver, sell it for more twice what it is worth.
One of a kind! Silvered Pentax SMC 1000mm f/8.

Why do I keep clicking on this? I think it's a general hope that someone else has bought it so I'm not irrationally tempted. Minimal focal distance of 30m... oh lord. What a cool lens though.

Gotta have it! Oh wait--I just sold one.

I gotta say it looks to be in very good condition and a good buy at that price. Oh, and don't think it's just an antique for display--it's a serious lens (albeit a bit prone to CA.)

The 'K' mount tube alone is worth money.

The mount is bayonet but does not have the lever that should be on M series lenses.

If you want closer focus, get the Rubnar mirror macro, 1000/10, focuses down to 4m. Even useful for indoors pictures, if you get enough light to focus.

Yeah, MFD 30m is an issue. I sometimes used an extension tube.

30 meter MFD kills it for me...

... oh yeah, and the fact that I'd have to come up with the cash!

At the bottom of that same eBay page, there's an offering for another one at $438. The condition might not be as good as the more expensive one but the photos look okay.

SMC Pentax 1000mm F 8 with Case K Mount | eBay

Meanwhile, an honest question: This lens on any APS-C Pentax body will give you a FOV equivalent of 1500mm. But I can also get that with my DA 55-300 mounted on my Q-S1. And the Q kit is much smaller and lighter while offering faster apertures. Is this 1000mm lens worth it? Yes, I'm aware of the advantages of an APS-C sensor over a 1/1.7" sensor. But the old Pentax glass seems to have major limitations as well. Can anyone who's owned it fill us in?

Just make sure it has the needed mount tube (M42 or K).

Never mind. It has the K mount tube. I prefer my lenses mint, but if it were to go to DCShooter, it would return good as new for a fraction of the cost of my posted unit.
