SMC Pentax-DA 40 XS - $92.06 (new)
Posted By: ScooterMaxi Jim, 11-17-2015, 09:01 AM

It seems that a couple of vendors at Amazon are in a little price war. When was the last time a new metal mount Pentax lens dipped below the century mark?

I followed the link and it's $220 Canadian, which even at current exchange rates is well above $100 US.

No problem for me when I test the link. To be more specific, it is offered by Electronics Basket (and Ritz for slightly more) - both fulfilled by Amazon.

Try this version of the link:
http://www.amazon.com/Pentax-DA-40mm-2-8-Lens/dp/B0078KOEMA/ref=sr_1_1?s=pho...Pentax+40mm+xs

As for comparison of the 35 f/2.4 and the 40mm xs, it really depends on your needs. I'm not fond of 40mm particularly as a normal lens (60mm equiv.), but the size is really attractive for stealth purposes. I can imagine bringing the 40mm along with the DA 21mm, and have quite the range of choice with one lens staying in a small pocket.

I have a FA35mm f/2, as well as various 50mm (old MF and current f/1.8), so the focal length isn't the main attraction. For me, I'd say this has mostly to do with cheap LBA.

Nope. Second link is Nadeshico.japan.ca for $211 Canadian. I'll take your word for it. For those who want an ultra-compact lens and don't want to cough up for a full price 40 DA Limited, it might still be a good idea. Since I already have the DA40, I'm passing on this one.

Possibly because the two of you live in Canada... Amazon routinely reroutes you.

And this is a stellar lens and much of its stardom shows up in its size (XS=Xtra Small). People say this to me often that it almost looks like a body cap. I would buy it at this price just for the heck of owning the world's thinnest prime. I very easily see this as a collectible whether or not it performs well.

I picked one up last night. Will be here tomorrow. I had some gift cards so it didn't cost me anything. It's fulfilled by Amazon so if some reason I don't like it, I can send it back with no hassles. I can't wait to try it out on my K-01.

Robertscamera in ebay has a listing for this lens, used but "mint-" (probably removed from the K-01's that they sell, also mint-), $110.56 with free shipping or best offer (more than 10 copies available). I offered $70, mentioning that it can be purchased new for $91 and it was accepted.

Let us know if you get a US warranty card from Ritz or the other Amazon seller. I know Ritz sells gray market, but I couldn't find out about Electronics Basket. So I bought at Adorama. But for future reference, I'm curious to see if they'll have the warranty.
