K-S1 & 18-55 lens -- $179 (no tax) Samy's Store Only
Posted By: lenp, 11-20-2015, 07:57 AM

Samy's lowered the price on K-S1 with 18-55 lens to $179 as part of their Pre-Black Friday sale. This appears to be an "in-store only" price as the website still has them at $199 (also a great price). The price is in their ad supplement

It's all part of this $100 mail-in rebate thing they got going. If you get the rebate, it's a great deal. If you don't, $279-$299 for the K-S1 is still a good deal. I got my K-S1 from them a couple months ago when they sold it straight up, no rebate, for $199. Can't help but wonder why they've suddenly gone down this rebate path. I know Canon's rebates used to be a running joke in the photo community. They had little old ladies fulfilling them part-time in their basements. Any small slip-up and your rebate would get denied.

I wonder how hard it will be to get the Samys rebate. I know they did it to increase profit - many people won't do the rebate correctly - but still, kudos to them or their supply line for making this undeservedly panned camera available for a great price.

The KS1 ad is at the top of the front page of the LA Times!

Interesting. I was just glancing around looking for prices on a blue K-S1. It seems the color bodies still sell for a much higher price. I wonder if that's because they are actually selling? Or are the sellers sticking to making a hefty profit on "the camera nobody wants to buy" even though they aren't selling?

Seize this if and when you can! Even if you have a K3-II, it's a fantastic second body.

I'm with clackers.
The K-S1 is a fantastic little camera - ignore the style gurus and LED haters.

That is ridiculously cheap. Get on it.

Great deal but I actually got mine for less from Samy's on ebay (after ebay bucks). 299 - 100 (rebate) - 23.92 (4x ebay buck - 8%) = 175.08 :P And to top it, 6-months interest-free credit courtesy Paypal - gives me time to decide which body to keep.

I think it is pretty obvious.. they are hoping customers either make mistakes on the rebate submission or forget about it entirely. Then they keep 100 dollars.

I've been eyeing this deal as a gift idea for my father. I'm guessing this would be a pretty good "intro" camera? Thoughts?

Also, I'm probably going to jump on the K-3 II with the rebate from Samy's. I don't see any mention of it on the rebate form but has anyone seen or know of a reason I couldn't get two separate rebates on two cameras?

It's certainly a good starter camera, and it also has lots of advanced features. The main thing to consider, IMO, is the small size of the grip. Still more or less a no-brainer at this price I'd say.

My daughter has small, dainty hands. I'm seriously considering upgrading her from the K-x. For Christmas.

Specs wise, this would be a very very large upgrade from the decent K-x -- she'd probably be pretty excited about it.

I'm considering this deal or the Costco K-S2. I know there's a large price difference between them, but the K-S2 does offer some advantages.

I was just checking out Samy's site to see if they had a price cut on the K-3 II and I notice that they don't have the KS-1 listed. Guessing they are either temporarily or permanently out of stock. Good thing I jumped on this a few days ago instead of waiting until tomorrow.
