How does Viewpoint automate more than PS/Lightroom? I am a newbie at all of this.
I do not have the View Pint plug-in. That is extra and can used as a plug-in for other software support h as Photoshop or Lightroom. I usually correct perspectives manually in Lightroom or in Photshop.

Viewpoint is a more powerful tool than Lr's lens corrections. It's designed to adjust horizon and various elements of perspective, etc. The lens corrections in Optics Pro would be the automatic ones that are more analogous to what Lr has, although better in that they cover more lens and camera combos. For example, you can defish a fisheye shot or straighten a whole building, not just correct aberrations in the lens, which is what corrections are for.

I'm looking at occasionally defishing pics from the DA 10-17 FE. (My post w/ attempts HERE.) A person there suggested using DXO Optics Pro, but after visiting their web site, I'm a bit unclear on what I need.
I have LR and PS, so if I just want to defish, do I only need the ViewPoint package? Or do I have to get the Optics Pro too?
BTW, I see they extended the 50% sale until January 3rd, so I'm hoping for a quick answer!

I have version 1.2 of Viewpoint, it does not defish. I don't know if the current version defishes, but you can download a trial version to see. You can also download a trial version of Optics Pro to try out the defishing.

Lightroom 5.7 has a lens profile for the 10-17. It does a good job of defishing the lens. You can always finish manually.

Viewpoint 2.0 is a stand alone software editor that can be used for correcting perspectives. You can also use it as plug-in for LR, PS, Elements, or DXO Optics Pro. So yes if all you want to do is defish, ViewPoint is what you want. I have found it to be virtually impossible to defish the 10-17 under 13mm not matter what software I use.

10-17 at 13mm defished.

10mm if I corrected anymore the buildings would have pointed towards each other.

I love my 10-17, it was my first DA lens I bought and will be the last I sell.

Edit; Sorry I did not read through your post at first. You have gone through essentially the same thing I have with my 10-17. Now I am interested in seeing what ViewPoint would be able to do with the 10-17. It seems we both agree that between 10-12mm it is more challenging to defish. I normally shoot my 10-17 between f8-f11. Ironically I have a 10-20 on the way to try out.

Thanks, Scorpio71GR. That's what I needed to know about ViewPoint. I discovered that the half price is the normal price on Amazon, so there's no big rush.
Thanks too for the confirmation on defishing at 10-12mm. That shot at 13mm looks very good. When I get time, I'll try out ViewPoint to see the results. I'll be eager to hear what results you get with the 10-20. (Maybe include that on my other thread.)

Careful with the Amazon price. DXO Labs is still the seller, it is fulfilled by Amazon. When DXO raises the price back up, it may go back up on Amazon too. I have seen this alot on Amazon over the last few years.

The special price is still working today, Sunday the 3rd. I just bought the film pack. In case anyone thought it had expired.

I've been using Lightroom since LR2 was new. Currently, using LR6. I decided to try DXO based on what everyone says about the Noise Reduction. I cannot process an image remotely close to what I can do in Lightroom. Can someone point me to some good online tutorials for DXO Optics Pro Elite to help me get going, (assuming you have some bookmarked that you liked)?

Edit: Found a bunch of tutorials on their website. I just wasn't looking in the right place, the first time around.
