To each their own. For me, $40 more for a new-with-warranty K-3 via an authorized retailer (Adorama) PLUS the 50mm lens and the AF-200FG flash thrown in was the better way to go...

I noticed that according to reviews that the lens may come without the lens hood.

The ones saying the 18-135 didn't come with a hood say they bought it from Amazon Warehouse. Those are usually open box.

Some of the responses are from a different seller saying that they can mail the buyer a hood. Which turns out to be a generic hood. Since this one is fulfilled by Amazon I wouldn't hesitate.

It says "Ships from and sold by Electronics Basket" I don't think that means it's fulfilled by Amazon. Good price though nonetheless.

That's what it says now. But I bought it from Another Deal Site with fulfillment by Amazon. It must have been the last one from them.

Oh okay yea that makes sense. Hey did anyone notice the title reads "(Discontinued by Manufacturer)"? Is that true? I didn't know that. Maybe we're getting some new lenses .

Amazon has a history of being wrong about Pentax stuff.

Yea I think I have noticed that before with a different lens. Maybe they're trying to help Pentax sales by making it appear as if it's a "buy em while they last" situation .

Amazon constantly says that a Pentax lens is not compatible with Pentax cameras and that the lenses in question are discontinued. It's become a steady indicator of false results. Since they've gone from being a stocker of merchandise to become an aggregator of vendors, their reliability has gone down to ebay levels, IMHO.

And just to emphasize it again, they also aggregate all the reviews of the product, sometimes even including that product that isn't really the same at all. Not to mention different vendors and shippers. So you need to do a bit of due diligence on the reviews to sort it, and try to remember to note the vendor and exact product in your own reviews.

FYI: I ordered the "discontinued" 18-135 WR from Electronics Basket (the other was 6ave). Came in a white non-Pentax box with hood, no warranty, not USA, not international. I'm guessing these were intended as kit lenses maybe. Did have a hood. Lens is new, and that's still a price just $25-50 above used.

Mine was the same. It shipped from Murfreesboro, TN (the seller was in Lexington, KY) to Amazon in Pittsburgh, PA. Murfreesboro has an Amazon warehouse. Amazon's packing left a little to be desired, just one air pillow that didn't even fill the box, but it arrived 2 days after it shipped from TN.

To update, I was thinking of sending back the non-warranty 18-135mm to Electronics Basket. I emailed them asking if I just got the wrong box "Carlos" sent me back a return label with no further explanation. I saw on Amazon that 6ave was selling the same "discontinued" lens for a bit less, so I emailed 6ave and asked if it came with US warranty. "Carlos" wrote back and said based on his "search" it did. Hmm. But I gave it a shot anyway; sure nuf, NO WARRANTY from 6ave. I dunno if this is the same "Carlos" and if these two sellers are in fact the same, but I kinda wonder. I just sent the 6ave one back; I'll probably keep the other one since it's still about the same as used.
