Man, there are some good deals on lenses. I can't believe the prices for the 43, I paid 500 used. And full frame compatible!

Prices went to what appears to be the new MRP, silently lowered by Ricoh after the suicidal, let's have 1000% margin Hoya decided in 2012 i think it was.

Regular prices now (~500$ for the APS-C lenses) is a normal price given the market and what the competition sells in the same area.

People being amazed at the "low" prices are nowadays are a bit silly and are only saying that in comparison to what (i consider) the unfair prices of the last ~ 3 years.

I don't consider my amazement at the low price of the 10-17 as being a "bit silly." Whether the higher prices previously were unfair or not, we still paid those prices. Who is to say the prices won't again go back up?

yes, hmm. I see how i offended. Meaningless to say now i really wasn't thinking of you when i said "silly", csa.

Prices.. trivial subject, but let me explain. I was in a position, in the last months, to watch them. Closely. And i stumbled upon many comments like "wow, that is so low" and thought "so low" is more related to the previous price than to a "normal" however relative that might be.

An example: when a 2.8 constant zoom Tamron (won't go into exact mm focals right now) is around ~450$ since ever. A constant aperture Sigma is in about the same neighborhood, suddenly a 3.5 -5.6 ap Pentax is 800$ or more, be it with WR (eventually some rubber seals) and proprietary coatings and etc. i cannot but see that as greed, bad marketing strategy and other things, especially since you are the underdog. There are many to be said here but i will stop.

Another reason (probably unfounded fear really, as i'm sure Pentax marketing sets it's prices based on a precise strategy and not internet forum postings) still i cannot but regard comments like "oh wow this is so low of a price" as silly because if a supplier would see this he could say oh yeah, just a sec. i'll make the price bigger asap.

I know (very little) and yet i do know what a lens means, how hard it is to make it work flawlessly, what dangerous substances are used in the coating process etc. to understand why a lens costs a lot of money - reason why so few companies in the world can manufacture them. But unless Pentax sells their lenses right now (through the 2 big stores in NY), with zero or negative profit, how fair is it towards the (loyal) clients, us few left on this boat, to have lenses sold at 1400$ few years ago being sold at 670$ right now (a random example for the 16-50 DA*)

And this is the last talk i'll have about prices. Everyone makes it's own price, everyone has a strategy, has specific costs, i am not the one to complain. The only thing i can do is choose where will i spend.

For me right now the APS-C lens prices (at Adorama and B&H, in Europe it's mayhem at this chapter) seem fair and hopefully will give Pentax a chance. But it might be too late, as after the 2012 stunt probably many said FOff and on top of that the market and the trend look elsewhere right now and i get a feeling that for many if it's not a Sony it's a Fuji.

P.S. I hope you 2 will meet someday

I see, Tamron/Sigma prices are often lower. Let's compare some to Canikon (BH prices):

Pentax Canon Nikon
300/4 853.69 1299.00 1309.00
100/2.8 Macro 379.00 549.00
50/1.8 89.89 99.00 131.95

It's only a short list as I don't want to take long making it but it could be quite a bit longer...

Maybe not; however I did comment in this thread how I was liking the low price on a lens. I think many of us are in a position to watch the prices closely, since price affects what we will purchase. "So low" is relative to previous prices; rather than "normal", whatever that would be.

HD DA70:
Last week the silver was $362 @B&H and black was $496. Now prices matched by Adorama.

I bought the silver. Can't help myself.

I didn't follow Canikon prices so my assumption this was (with minor variation) their level in the past years might be wrong. But these great Pentax prices you're showing, since when are they at this level? Since 3-4 months? Before that they were.. almost double? Let's hope the patient is not yet dead or if it is he will revive, but reviving will take years seeing the current trends and fads. The K-1 will have to bear the world on it's shoulders, and let's hope if it manages to pull that off, Ricoh won't get cocky in a Sonyesque manner and sell us APS-C lenses at 2000$/piece

Typically Ricoh will have a high MSRP and then drop the price quickly...

Sadly, it has gone back to $440-ish level.

I don't know whether I'll be happy or sad that it's no longer $300-ish.
