That 150-450 has been released for around a year now.. just shows they are still involved in large price reductions (be it in the form of a sale) after about a year on the market... even with their D-FA items. I think this whole FF system could cost around 30% less this time next year. Great for us bargain hunters.

I think there's a better then even chance a year from now K-1 production won't have caught up with demand.

Yet, despite very high demand, the 645Z price dropped ~18% after the first year on the market.

From watching the K-5, K-5II, K-3, K-3II, and 645Z camera pricings, I see the Ricoh/Pentax pricing scheme is to get as many people to pay the 'brand new tax', then lower the price to attract the next tier of buyers.. even on their high end MF system.

My opinion stands as wait and see the price diminish within 12 months.

Yeah that one smarts a lot. $600 down the tube. Even the 70-200 is down about $500 from it's announced price. I will never be an early adopter again.

I pre-ordered a K-01. Love the camera but I learned my lesson. I've convinced myself the pre-order premium is 'rent' you pay while everyone else waits for the better price.

I think that's a really good way to look at it, actually. Typically, I like for prices to settle way down before I jump in, and that means waiting some considerable time after launch. But, there have been occasions where I wanted a piece of equipment either at launch or soon after, and I decided to pay the premium knowing I would get at least 12 - 18 months use out of the item before the prices dropped considerably. In those instances, I'm happy to have had early use of the equipment in return for the premium I paid. As you said, it can be considered a rental or lease cost

Yeah I can relate a little, I paid $181 for the DA 50mm 1.8 when it was "on sale" from it's launch price of $250, which was a year or so after it had been out. Now it can be had for $89 new on a regular basis, even less used from people selling them from K-3 bundles they bought and hardly used the lens. Worst part is my Super Takumar 50mm 1.4 gets all the camera time anyways and the DA 50mm spends a lot of time in the bag until I really need autofocus. The K-1, however, is tempting me so much I may eventually cave in and pre-order one regardless if the price is going to drop or not!

Wow, I just noticed the DFA* 70-200mm 2.8 is less than it's Canon and Nikon counterparts and hasn't even been released yet. May be a compelling argument to choose Pentax over the others if it performs better.

And they list the Sigma 50-500mm at $1,459... if I could get that much for my copy, I'd definitely put up an extra $200 for the Pentax!
