Helps if you have someone who can build a lens plate for you.

Unaccountably, my resolve to pass on this remains firm. I must be getting old & wise.

I sauntered over there and read the A*1200/8 auctions just for grins. It satisfied my curiosity. Over the years I've come to the conclusion that once or twice a year the 400's and 600's and the 1200 come up and someone always buys them. This K-seriues zoom, though, I've never seen before.

I see them from time to time. General price seems to be between $600 and $800. It has the same rear mount as my Reflex 1000 and 2000.

I'm interested in the rear mount, so we'll see if they accept my offer. If so, maybe I'll sent it to @dcshooter to turn into a silvery goddess.

They come up for sale several times a year. This lens 3-4 years ago in good condition would fetch $800-1200. The zoom is nice, not just for composition, but acquiring the target. I had major frustration with mine for a couple years until I accidentally found out it had a spot for a rear filter. This lens (at least my copy) does much better with the rear filter installed. The lens plate pictured above sure helps.

Here is a moon shot I posted a while back. It was cloudy, and I had 2 or 3 minutes to focus in and take one shot in preparation for the upcoming eclipse.

He may have to build a new tank for anodizing!

Very valid point! My old K1000/8 ("The Black Dragon") had a gun-sight which was very helpful--it's a shame that seems to have fallen out of fashion.

I'm getting very tempted by this. I think it would make a great part of my car safari kit that goes with me weekly to Denali National Park, and definitely be the cure of any potential lens envy lol.

For anyone who is curious about the IQ of this lens on different digital cameras, I have a few samples with my review on the screw mount version:

Howdy all,

So I picked this lens up from Robert's last week and went out to Goose Pond IN for some birding and testing of this beast. I had a good deal of fun learning what this can and can not do. It was no so bad walking around with this lens over my shoulder attached to my tripod and gimbal head. Does anyone know where I can find the drop in filters for this? This is my first lens to use this type of filter and all I can find in quick research are Nikon drop in's for newer lens. A few pics from yesterday, quickly edited from RAW via my Ipad and PS Express. Focus is a learning process with this lens, live view helped when setup in the shade on my K3. Step one on my journey using this beast.

Thanks

Good for you--promising shots! Good luck with the "drop-in"--that may be quite a quest.

The K 135-600mm F6.7 does not use drop in filters. It uses a rear 52mm screw in filter.

I have a PDF of a very poorly photocopied manual. The pictures are not that great, and some of the charts are unreadable. But if you are interested, PM me, and I'll be glad to share what I have. Instructions from the manual are as follows:

1. To remove the mount, turn the mount lock ring to the left until the white dot aligns with the index.

2. After screwing a 52mm filter into the inside of the mount, return the mount into the rearmost part of the lens, and fix it in place by turning the mount lock ring to the right.

It's not hard, but if you still have questions, I'll be glad to take some pictures. It may be a while before I can get around to the pictures though. Enjoy the lens!
