Rogue Flashbender for cheap
Posted By: mee, 03-15-2016, 07:54 PM

If you were in the market for a Rogue Flashbender, and don't mind minor defects (stitching and the sort), the company that makes them sells their 'seconds' (factory defects) on ebay for cheap.

For instance a Large Flashbender 2 will cost you 40 dollars retail at B&H.

Factory Seconds version 25 dollars: Factory Second Rogue Flashbender 2 Large Reflector Flash Bender | eBay

They have a whole suite of these factory seconds items on ebay: Save on Factory Seconds! collection on eBay!

I bought the large flashbender 2. It came the other day with extremely minor stitching defect (a single 3-4mm overlapped stitch) in an otherwise pristine copy. Also came with the Quick Start guide on how to use it, a catalog of Rogue products, and a 'free' flash gel (Oklahoma Yellow).

You can get similar copies made in china for a fraction of the price

Universal Snoot Reflector Flash Diffuser Softbox for Nikon Sony Canon YONGNUO S | eBay

Pro Foldable Reflector Speedlight Snoot SEALED Beam Tube Flash Softbox Diffuser | eBay

And they would ship to Canada!

From my expereince, I have to say the sturdiness, fit & finish of the Rogue product is way better than any knock off, even they are all made in China. I have no expereince with their "seconds" though.

Yes, the securing method around the flash looks a little less substantial on the knockoff. The Rogue has two velcro strips on one side and a buckle on the other. So one maneuvers the velcro strip through the buckle and back over to the other side. The knock off just has a velcro grabber on one side and the fuzzy grab stuff on the other.

I also suspect the weight overall could be different (lighter name brand). But hey for 9 bucks give that a go if you want. If it stinks, you're only out 9 bucks. haha

I'm sticking with the name brand Rogue products though. The factory seconds do seem to be only very minor cosmetic issues... thus the only reason they were pulled from the factory line. Mine only had a single very minor stitching issue in a single place. I could probably sell it used for the price I bought it new.

I looked it over, and my money would stay with the Rogue. The Rogue, IMHO has a little more ways to bend the light, including using it as a snoot.

$18 was too convincing for the Small FB. Purchased. I hope it works out for me.
