Vanguard Kinray 48
Posted By: bertwert, 04-06-2016, 07:06 AM

I brought my K-50 to The Camera Store for a warranty repair.
This bag was on sale for 50% off at $60 CAD and was almost exactly what I was looking for.
At first glance it seems like a good bag, but I have no camera so it won't be used for a couple months

That looks like a nice bag Bert, I just wish the Camera Store would provide a bit more information about the bag - like the dimensions of the bag. I saw Vanguard's presentation video and I like the fact it can be converted to a daypack (which is what I would be using this backpack as) but I need the dimensions of the bag when it's set up a daypack (hint, hint). I already have the Lowepro Versapack which I find a bit too small for my needs. If you have the bag please take some measurements and either post them here or pm to me, much thanks.

I saw that as well but it doesn't tell me anything - the bottom compartment looks about the same as the Versapack, configuration wise. What I'd like to know is whether the upper compartment can accept a bag insert that I have which let's me carry a 70-200/2.8 lens (the insert bag won't fit in the Versapack). If I can get the height and the width of the upper compartment, then I can make the decision to get this pack or not.

These are rough measurements.
Bottom: 14x24x20cm
Top: 14x24x24cm

They can be separated, or unseparated.

Thanks Bert - unfortunately that's the same as my VersaPack. Oh well, at least I won't need to explain about getting yet another camera bag to my better half.

Looks bigger than the versapack though...?

I've measured the upper compartment and it's about the same as your pack except there is a difference of 9cm in height between front and the back of the pack - the bottom portion is about 5cm deeper on yours but I don't have a problem with that because it can accommodate my Tamron Adaptall-2 180/2.5 (looks like DA*200/2.8 would fit too - don't have one). I am looking for an insert on eBay that's 14x24x15cm or as close to it as possible.

I wonder if anyone was able to cram in a larger flexible type of insert into a smaller bag or backpack? There are lots of 25cm wide inserts but no 24cm wide one.

I think the ones that have soft cloth both interior and exterior might be bendable but the hard nylon type are quite rigid and can't be bet to fit in the Versapack, believe me I've wrestled with it too often to count.
