Pentax K50 special on TV in Australia
Posted By: Tas, 05-13-2016, 04:07 AM

So I saw 'Pentax' on the electronic TV guide so decided to take photos of the TV. As you do...

Yes, for one whole hour two people talk about the benefits of a DSLR over mobile phones, the must have accessory of UV filters (huh?) and some other stuff. No, I didn't last the whole hour.

Hey, isn't the young guy one of the Kennedy's?
I saw him from some of the photos at the K-1 launch in Sydney.

Also - good work by CRK.

Yep, it's Clem Kennedy, he did MC duties for the presentations of the Sydney launch.

The K50 was the headline product here, but they were also covering the Ricoh Theta. Annoyingly now I want one.

I really need to get a life.

Yeah, that argument's been had here before, but there are believers and it is a legitimate position. Those who don't want to use protection... well, it's on them if their front element catches something.

Still, it's Pentax being advertised to the masses on TV. GO, PENTAX!

"UV" - "Useless, Very".

Not a substitute for a lens cap IMHO. ☺

Good to see Pentax on TV, even an infomercial.

Those infommerical tv channels are a criminal waste of precious bandwidth which could instead be used to give us some proper 1080 HD programs for all those expensive full definition tvs we all bought on the switch to digital broadcasting. And or get rid of the heavy compression on what we do get.

And the most excruciating watching if curiosity gets the better of you and you surf over to one of them for a peek.

I actually heard two guys on the local radio here talking about the Theta.
Though, when they said, "It's from this new company called [Rocci?] [Rowki?] [Rochie?]" I almost lost it...

Even if they can't pronounce Ricoh, it was still cool to hear someone talking about it. (by the way, Ricoh is also not a new company... pretty sure they've been around 80 years?)

I tried to call in and correct them and also give a plug to the amazing DSLR line of Pentax, but their lines were busy for 10 minutes straight.

The funny part is, well sad part really; the people that were able to get through to their phone lines were all for the Theta, asking where they could get one and how cool it was for other camera companies being birthed from "innovators" like GoPro and Nikon/Canon...
Again, the ignorance of the general public astonishes me, but the fact that people will go on air and say this stuff with absolutely no idea what they're talking about is just downright hilarious!

...and sad...lazy....you know, if only there was, oh I don't know, some kind of webpage where you could search for information to find out about stuff before doing a presentation.

Nah, researching information before opening ones mouth will never catch on.

We have two ears and two eyes but only one mouth.
You think people would try to listen and look twice as much before talking...
Not so much.

You sound young....... ignorance is the base line of humanity...... for the most part. It's basically a survival skill.

Sure I'm young, I'm 25 years old. But I'm not afraid to learn.
Being lazy is not a survival skill. Why do a review on a product you know nothing about? How hard is it to open a web browser and search for 10 minutes just to get the basics - Company name and when it was founded. Not that difficult...

Ignorance is the base line of humanity?
Is this sarcastic or are you actually thinking analytically about this?
If you want to say that throughout history the act of not knowing has let us to great discoveries, than sure I agree with you.
But if you're just saying that public ignorance is the social norm now; it's all geographic. But the base line of humanity?

I'm analytical and reflective by nature. Not good nor bad, just is.
