There is the legendary K 2/28 at an auction on German eBay.
For those who don't know: This lens is a Zeiss design (Distagon) from the time Asahi and Zeiss worked together on some projects. On eBay it appears less than once in a year, and sometimes goes for astronomic prices. Unfortunately, I ran a bit out of money, otherwise I would give it a try myself.

It's quite a "premium" kit, too, complete with dedicated lens case, hood, and hood case, all in excellent condition.

And (if it matters), the lens is an earlier version (K-era, not M-era) sample.

Unfortunately (for some, but not for the winning bidder), "Versand nur nach Deutschland".

With the Swiss offer I would be careful.

• $1290 is a collectors price, but then I would expect it to be in mint conditon (which it isn't) and includes assessories (which it doesn't). And even then, it would be quite high.
• However, he allows for lower offers.
• $49.90 for "Standard Int. Shipping" may be ok for delivering to USA, but not to the French or German border (2 hours by car).
• Considering the high fixed price, he should offer an insurance; dealing with items lost in cross-border trading can be a PTA, specially with Switzerland. And the Standard Shipping does not include unlimited insurance - and prior to the Swiss Post paying anything, there could be a long wait till investigations prove in which country which company lost the item. I doubt eBay would re-pay in advance and then risk going to a Swiss court to get the money back. The situation would be less risky if the seller was a commercial one with a long-time and positive eBay history.

I shouldn't have looked at this thread. It sorely reminds me (again) of several lenses I passed over in 2011. A seller had these 'K' lenses listed on Kijiji:

• 200/2.5
• 55/2
• 50/1.4
• 28/2

Because they were a three-hour drive away, I decided not to pursue them. All the lenses appeared to be pristine condition, with cases. The asking price? A princely CAD $150 for the lot.

However, FWIW, it is a somewhat different lens design from the original Contax/Yashica Distagon (and the Pentax K) 28/2.

How do you think I feel, was an airman stationed in Berlin in the late 80's making regular travels to then East Berlin , I believe $1 was worth 500 East Mark or something crazy like that around 1988-89, there was a popular store on the other side of The Wall selling everything Carl Zeiss , lenses , binoculars etc shelves and shelves , well since I knew I would be back I'd always "get it next time" and then something unexpected happened during that winter 1989. What is that saying about hindsight?

Just a heads up - I contacted the seller and it turns out he's willing to ship to the US for about 35 EUR. The BIG catch is that he doesn't accept PayPal, only Bank Transfer. Considering he has stellar feedback I guess it'd be worth the risk only if it sells for a good price. I personally wouldn't do it though.

K28/2 with original caps and no marks on the body should be $600 - $800 US.

Since K-1, sellers have crazy ideas of values. $6,000 for a black K. $1,300 for a nice K28/2. $995 for an A50/1.2.

Maybe I should be a seller.

Well, you may not get $6000 for your old K, but you certainly will not get anything near unless you ask for it. So I understand the plan. But you're not getting anything near it from me, though!
