RARE Original Pentax K Black Version by Asahi | eBay

Do these things actually fetch these obscene amounts?

I saw the price and laughed. No doubt it is rare, but it is not gold.

Baard-elnar warned us about sellers of black K cameras. There are some fraudsters out there - be cautious.

With the edge brassing and dings, Adam is correct. That is a $650 listing, including tne lens and case. As I remarked on the other thread, I bought the more common silver version with the Zebra lens and Pentax cap, in absolutely spotless condition, for $450 earlier this year. I was the only bidder.

Yep - anything older than an SP becomes a collectable and buyers pay attention to condition. I think I read somewhere they made 57,000 K's, so there are probably 6000 or so out there (which is actually quite a large number), and 600 in collectable condition (also a large number). They're not that hard to get, so you can be selective.

I'd look closely at just about any Asahiflex, AP or S though

There's something neat about a camera which forces you to deliberately select those shutter speeds which are too slow for reliable handholding with a normal-FOV lens, but I'm not paying that money for one.
