At today's rate that's off by almost 100 USD. I'd guess that's more like $550 since the usd runs about 0.69 GBP to each USD.

Please note this is the f/2.8 version and not the f/2. There's quite a difference reading around the subject.

Just in case you don't realize, both the K28/2 and K15/3.5 are Zeiss lenses. In particular the K28/2 is the Contax Zeiss 28mm f2 Distagon - usually referred to as "Hollywood". On their price list for lenses, they have both the K28/2 along with the ZK28/2.8K28/2 K15/3.5

If I'm spending other people's money, I'd have to say that the K28/2
28mm F2 SMC PK by Pentax - Ffordes Photographic
is the better deal of the two, don't y'all think?

At any rate, you could always take a page out of Interested Observer's playbook and Leitax a C/Y 28/2.8--I saw a nice copy of the MMJ/MMG version go for $275 recently. (For myself, I'm starting to eye the 85/2.8 Sonnar more than is healthy...)

So, here is my story....

A number of years ago, I was sitting around over the course of several weeks eyeing a Pentax 21mm on a used equipment web site (should I spend the money or not - decision, decision, decision). Finally, one evening I said screw it - and bought it. The next day, I happened back at the site and for whatever reason was actually looking at the picture - that I never looked at before and in the picture it's the FA 31Ltd - so what did I buy (I didn't know what a 31 looked like - never looked, because I could never afford it). A week later the package arrived and out popped a 31Ltd. I wanted to be nice, so I called the seller and they said I had bought the serial number advertised - but if I really wanted the 21mm ....

A couple of years later, I was going through the craigslist site looking for Pentax items and came across a set of Contax Zeiss lenses that said that they fit Pentax. I called the gentleman and talked for a while and received more information. Then I did a whirlwind net search for everything Contax and did a speed reading marathon. I called back to buy the 28 and met the gentleman across town (my first craigslist purchase). He was an older gentleman who had a working set Contax Zeiss C/Y set (21,28, 50 and 85 if I remember right) - and was extraordinarily knowledgeable about everything Contax). I bought the 28 for $275 (and then ordered the Leitax mount). He offered to sell me the set - but with two sons in college at the time, I was tapped out (I should have - just kick me). I really really really like the lens.

So, then a couple of years later, I was thinking about what the difference was between the C/Y and the ZK. I had received a bonus at work, so I bought the ZK 28/2.8, on a close out sale.

I am now sitting here with 3 wonderful lenses as you could hope to find - in the same focus length range 25mm to 31mm, all reasonably fast glass f1.8 to f2.8. One of the best Pentax made and some of the best Zeiss glass available. The ZK25 has had a bit of scorn dumped on it - which gave me some pause, however - I have never really seen it. It is just a fantastic lens.

I shoot with them. I need to shoot more - well when I retire in a couple of months. The 31 when I need AF, and its a toss up between the 28 and 25. The 25 has half of its focus throw allocated to 6 to 12 inches with the rest for 12 inches to infinity. The 28 is small, very small compared to the other two. The reviews say that the 25 is better corrected and a bit sharper than the 28. It really does not matter as they are all excellent - all better glass than I as a photographer....

Any of them would be fantastic on the K1.

Ha, great story--I came close to biting on the C/Y 28/2.8, but already have a K28/3.5 that doesn't give much away; the ZK25/2.8 is quirky enough to tempt me, though, and both the 85/2.8 and 100/3.5 are on my radar, despite all the great, fast legacy glass. (I find myself shooting more landscapes than supermodels these days.)

At any rate, I imagine the C/Y 21/2.9 would make an excellent retirement gift to yourself--the cost of the Leitax conversion would fall within a rounding-error.
