Cactus RF60X (new model) on Pre-Order at 20% off retail price
Posted By: MarkJerling, 12-08-2016, 03:43 PM

Both B&H and Adorama have the new Cactus RF60X flash at $148 rather than the recommended retail price of $185.

Can anyone clarify the differences between this model and the older models? I looked and this is the "most detailed" link I have found and it is pretty spare about details of the differences.

"Faster Recycle and new user interface"
The recycle time for the old flash was 0.1-5.0 seconds. That's improved to 0.1-1.9 seconds.

There's a new 'cooling mode' that's supposed to prevent the flash from overheating.

It supports wireless HSS without any firmware updates.

It also includes an AF assist light.

I'd say it wasn't worth the update, but that recycle time...

New features include:
Faster recycling times.
A new user interface.
The AF-assist Light on the RF60X can now function as an off-camera flash in Slave mode.
New Cooling Mode: By intelligently regulating the recycle time the RF60X runs cool all the time. This industry exclusive feature allows the flash to sustain a steady performance even after consecutive full power flashes. You can now shoot without the restriction of an overheat cut-of.

Thanks for the heads up. Been considering getting a second RF60 flash for a while, I've found that the second gen cactus products to be worth checking out.

The recycle time is something I could benefit from.. although I don't see this model being a real upgrade.

Have had occasional issues with recycling times at 1/16 and maybe this "upgrade" would allow me to be more comfortable using 1/8 power and higher.

Upgrading to the external battery pack would probably address refresh times a lot more.
