The Tamron 17-50mm F2.8 has dropped dramatically in price as of 2017- get it for $200 off the regular price we've seen for the past year!

I just helped my mom buy the Sigma 17-50 f/2.8 for Nikon for my step-dad. Oh well. $100 more but supposedly a slightly nicer lens from what I have read. I think I would have had her save the $100 if I had it to do over... LOL.

$299 is a great deal. If i didn't have the DA 20-40 I might be more tempted by this.

Looks like Amazon is back at $499 w/ Adorama and B&H still at $299 for the moment.

A fantastic lens offering a fast 2.8 constant aperture, lovely smooth bokeh and a nicely sharp image along with a nice close focus capability. A perfect walk-around for practically any situation one may encounter where a moderate Wide Angle to moderate Telephoto will suffice. When I'm not shooting manual/vintage glass, it is definitely my one of my most used AF lenses.

Nopes. It is still at $299 by Amazon. Check for Amazon in the seller list. The one that shows up when you click on the link is from CameraSpot for $499.

Is this screw drive or micromotor?

Perhaps this is the last of Tamron's stock of this lens being pushed out? I wonder when they last had a production run of this lens in k-mount.

Usually the term 'blowout' means 'discontinued.' I wonder if Adam meant that in his spiel or not?

That said, it isn't just K-mount, as the price is the same for Canon and Nikon variant too. Maybe the quiet before the storm for CP+ in late Feb? Would be neat to see a revised model with a motor and sealing..

Similar Sigma lens is still $399

I guess this one could be a screw drive model. I got the17-50mm f/2.8 EX DC HSM model a few months ago when it was $349. It's currently $399 at B&H. The HSM Sigma lenses use "High Speed Motor" AF, and are really fast to focus. I don't know if the glass formulas are the same, but I like mine. Sharp clear to the edges and fast.

Pissed I missed that. $349 was a great price.

Would be neater if Tamron was still at least somewhat committed to producing new lens in k-mount. Making a big assumption, I think they're going to continue production of the VC variant of the 17-50, which optically doesn't seem quite as nice as the older 17-50 that this thread is about. They probably make more money on those and it's a more recently developed product.

If I didn't already have an 18-135 I would pounce on this deal. I can't rationalize owning both.

Way it seems to be going for K mount...

This lens would be a better fit if you needed the speed of the lens.. since it is f/2.8 from 17-50 throughout. Plus that extra mm at the wide end is considerable if doing landscape work.

That said, I'd still go after the Sigma 17-50mm compared to this one.. unless this one was really dirt cheap as the Sigma tests better on pretty much everyones review of it (I've scoured the web ) overall.

IQ seems better with the Tamron, especially with flair & fringing, in comparison with the Sigma. Sigma seems somewhat better built. I've actually given a copy of the Tamron as a gift to my sister (who has a Canon DSLR, so I can't try it on my Pentax). My my level of ability I can't see having this lens and my 18-135. Next lens is going to be an old prime to keep me more on my toes.

Anyone used the DA*16-50 along with these lenses? I know that in-depth reviews usually give great marks to the Sigma but I like to hear other user's views.
