The most expensive used Pentax lens I have every seen...

For fun pop this baby on a K-1 or 645 and enjoy the speed and reach. If you want AF you could pop it on the K-1 with the F 1.7x TC on top of it to push it to 1360mm f/6.8!

Imagine what it could do on a Q! You'd probably have to float the whole thing on a mercury bath to get the best out of it, though.

If the 600 had chromatic aberration issues imagine what the 800 would be like...

Practical it isn't. At least not on most formats. I imagine shot on a 6x7 with film it isn't too bad.

Somebody needs to pay the $26,000 for this and write a review. Is it true this thing weighs almost 40 pounds?

Yes and you will need two tripods to shoot with it, so it's not something you take on a day hike!

If I could do so and recoup the cost in Ad revenue I would. I even have a buddy in town who shoots 6x7 film cameras so I could get that perspective as well as the K mount perspective. Mine would be crop and film 35mm however since I do not have the K-1. (But at this price what's a K-1 to add to the costs... LOL)

In the other thread that started about 2 hours after this one @Digitalis mentioned that the 800 f/4 has serious CA wide open.

That's pretty irrelevant, as you don't buy this lens to shoot wide open! The f4 aperture makes for a brighter viewfinder on the 6x7, stop it down and you are good to go. You're most likely going to be shooting between f/32 -f/45 to get proper DOF with this lens.

That makes sense - I had not thought about that. So mainly used for telephoto landscapes?

Some years ago I saw a photo of a massive 6x7 lens on display in one of the NY flagship stores, but not for sale. This isn't the same lens, is it?

Yep pretty well as the minimum focusing distance is 20 meters. I have it's little brother the 6x7 600/4 and that's what I use it for. (freighters in the harbour and so on) You can add an extension tube to focus closer, but it's real hard to guess the focusing range and a pain to use.

Yep they have had it for years and probably will never sell it.

"Picture does not represent the actual item " For that price I think they could take a photo of the lens.
