I have contemplated long for this beauty. But wonder if for half the price and silent AF, WR, less weight and a stop loss, if DA*300/f4 would be more manageable.
Anyone here have both and or have used both at some point can chime in?

there's no doubt, the FA* 300/2.8 is heavy by compare to the DA 300. Also, they are surprisingly hard to AF tune in a lot of cases. It's unlikely you'll handhold the 300/2.8, but also unlikely you should handhold the 300/4.

The results when the 300/2.8 nails the focus are stunning.

From the listing, it appears this one comes with the drop in circular polarizer which can cost 300+ if you can find one.

Thats another thing that bother me with non-WR lenses or older FA*. They eventually get that fungus if not stored with desiccants in the cases they are in. A WR lens probably offers better moisture barrier in the long run although I store them with desiccants (a sock filled with rice in the box I keep them in, nothing fancy).
