For some reason, Pentax Australia are currently 'fire-saleing' the DA 17-70mm f/4 ALIF SDM lens for just AUD $199, which is considerably lower than the circa $500 it used to sell for:

Lens is shown as 'in stock', and shipping is usually very prompt from Pentax Australia.

This suggests to me that a new version of the lens may be arriving soon.

This lens has been discontinued for a while now. Replaced by the 16-85

Probably just clearing out old stock that is slow to sell. I wonder if at that price it is at a loss? New lens is the 16-85, but it is variable max aperture. I have the 17-70 and it is great optically, but has the focus issues so well documented.

It's not $169, but $199 is still a very good deal. The lens is nice.
