haha, I don't know about that, over the years I have seen a significant improvement in shots when paying more and more money for 'stuff' lol. But yes... I do get your point

(Laughs)
If I gave my K-30 and DA18-55 kit lens to David Bergman, I had his Canon 1DX and L series 24-70, and you sent us outside to take five portfolio pictures of a model, whose photos would you end up going with?
Here's some background to that pic above.
It's at a Bridal Photography workshop, the venue being a very Olde World style bar in the afternoon, before it opened up to customers for the evening.
The models were in different rooms, she was in the courtyard. She naturally sat around one the outdoor tables, having a cigarette waiting for someone to shoot her. The Canon and Nikon guys would take pics of her in this shaded environment, and it was a bit like that pic you showed us of a girl (perhaps your daughter??) on a dirt road in the bush, there was no chance of good photos coming out of that, no matter how pretty this pretend bride is. The other photographers looked at their pics on the back of their LCD screens and politely left.
When it came to my turn, I brought her away from the table and to the one edge of the courtyard where reflected light peered over the fence. We both leaned against that brick wall.
I'm telling you, there is no reason you couldn't have done this shot with your existing gear.
