If I gave my K-30 and DA18-55 kit lens to David Bergman, I had his Canon 1DX and L series 24-70, and you sent us outside to take five portfolio pictures of a model, whose photos would you end up going with?

Here's some background to that pic above.

It's at a Bridal Photography workshop, the venue being a very Olde World style bar in the afternoon, before it opened up to customers for the evening.

The models were in different rooms, she was in the courtyard. She naturally sat around one the outdoor tables, having a cigarette waiting for someone to shoot her. The Canon and Nikon guys would take pics of her in this shaded environment, and it was a bit like that pic you showed us of a girl (perhaps your daughter??) on a dirt road in the bush, there was no chance of good photos coming out of that, no matter how pretty this pretend bride is. The other photographers looked at their pics on the back of their LCD screens and politely left.

When it came to my turn, I brought her away from the table and to the one edge of the courtyard where reflected light peered over the fence. We both leaned against that brick wall.

I'm telling you, there is no reason you couldn't have done this shot with your existing gear.

Totally, I get your point entirely. I am speaking from my own n00b perspective, basically going up through the prices, from K-50's and DA50's through to K-1's and DFA 100mm. Certain shots benefit from different lenses and gear and I haven't gotten that much better (in a short space of time) but quite a lot of my gear has. I recall putting the DFA 100mm on my pentax K-1, auto mode, day one and was blown away by it. Night and day difference compared to my previous experience with the same lens on the K-50.

But of course, person and skills comes before the equipment, I totally agree with you.

Like i said, this buy was more of a curiosity purchase, to see how much of a difference if any I can perceive between the two lens, and at the end of the day I will likely stick with the FA and crossing a tick off having that particular focal length crossed off for the foreseeable future. I can sell the DA 50 and recoup some of the expense.

Nice shot by the way.

It will be interesting to see whether the K1 lens mount problem has been already addressed, as DCXPERT is actually C.R Kennedy's ebay store,if not I'll take a trip to C.R Kennedy in Port Melbourne to get it fixed. At $756 AUD for this lens I won't mind making the trip.
Ordered on Saturday, received by lunchtime on Tuesday but the lens mount was still the original and had never been fixed. I rang C.R Kennedy they have the mount in stock and have a 1 day turnaround on the mount change.
It would have been nice for it to come fixed but for $756 AUD even with the trouble to have the mount addressed I still think this is a bargain.

Jeepers, the 10-20 arrived at 8h30 this morning and instead of the free 32Gb USB stick (nice, but fairly useless to me) I received a 32Gb Sandisk Ultra SDHC UHS-1 card. Win!!!!

Listeners were ringing in to Hamish and Andy the other day with their stories of losing a drone on its first flight.

For one guy, it just climbed and climbed and climbed until it was never seen again.

Another did have the GPS Return to Start mode on, but since this was on the ferry to Tasmania, when it went back after venturing 2km away of course the ship had moved on.

I could see that happening to me..... hard enough remembering where I left the camera.... let alone where the camera left me.... even though, I am liking the idea of adding a foredeck to my skinny tinny to take off and land the drone on..... the smallest ever murray river aircraft carrier....

I'm a Swan Hill boy originally, so I like the idea of a Murray River aircraft carrier, but it would have to be in the form of a paddle steamer, of course!
