Just got notification of a 20% sale this weekend on DCXPERT... Very generous discount, although they seem to be missing a couple of the newer DFAs ie 15-30 and 70-200...

Runs through to Monday night (Aug 21)

Was there a 28-105 in there with it?

Because NO NEWS from Startrack on the whereabouts of the one that was supposed to get here today!
sorry nope. I'm in perth so that would have been quite a mixup.

Why is the 17-70mm f4 so cheap? About $160 with the 20% off. Much more expensive internationally at B&H, Adorama etc.

This is certainly what it is. I just pulled the pin on a new Sigma 85mm f1.4 EX DG HSM from them and this lens was discontinued 18 months ago.
It will be interesting to see whether the K1 lens mount problem has been already addressed, as DCXPERT is actually C.R Kennedy's ebay store,if not I'll take a trip to C.R Kennedy in Port Melbourne to get it fixed.
At $756 AUD for this lens I won't mind making the trip.

Alas, I lingered too long. I wanted to buy the 16-85, but not there! On the Pentax au website its listed as out of stock (along with a number of other lenses. I'll just have to wait for the next sale...)

Ordered the 10-20mm f3.5 to go with the 17-70mm ordered and received last week. So now I'm well covered together with the 50-500mm I already have.

Just pulled the trigger on the FA 50mm 1.4, $335 delivered. I'm keen to see how this compares with my DA 50mm 1.8 on the K-1.

I think they will be very hard to tell apart when stopped down.

I think you will be right.

The DA50mm 1.8 is a remnant from the K-50 past, and part of me wants to know that if the K-1 paired with a 'proper' full frame lens will produce a better shot. Silly I know, but I think I have to tick this off.
I struggle to get shots at 1.8-2 with the DA50mm, let alone 1.4, but I do want to persevere and get better, eventually doing portraits for people etc. Nothing better than a 1.4 headshot when done right! With the DA 1.8 I can't even get that choice.
Still... I should be able to sell the DA50mm for $100 or so, making the cost of the FA 50mm 1.4 come down in my mind somewhat

Buying a lens will cost you, but won't make you a better photographer, Bruce. Practice is free.

This is the DA*55 at f2 on the K-1, natural light from the front, that wall lamp at the rear providing the rim light. If on that afternoon you had been standing beside me in the courtyard, your DA50 would have produced an almost identical shot.

Hah! I ordered the 28-105 and a K-1 grip on Wednesday evening. The package arrived early Friday afternoon.
I guess I missed out on the discount, but I'm very happy with the service.

haha, I don't know about that, over the years I have seen a significant improvement in shots when paying more and more money for 'stuff' lol. But yes... I do get your point
