I'm actually kind of tossing up between the nicer compact KP and the larger K-1. Since you have the two, which would you prefer? I'd be using the FA77 and the 31 lenses mostly. If I get the K-1, I might end up selling my DA 18-135 and DA 15.

Even though the K5 is quite small, I've been finding myself reluctant to take it out. I'm not sure the K-1 would reinvigorate my passion for taking a big dslr out and about - especially with two small kids.

It depends. You will find the FA31 a revelation on the K-1. I love the FA77 on both formats.
The only reason I still have a crop camera is the DA limiteds. My 15, 21 and 35 aren't going anywhere.

I got rid of my 21 and 35 limiteds a while back. Now that I think about it I probably shouldn't have sold the DFA 100 (not the new version) too.

This is making it difficult for me to decide now.

If the K5 is still too big for you or acting as a disincentive to use it then go for the KP. I too upgraded from the K3 to the K1 (I also still have my K5) and kind of wish I went for the KP. The K3 was an annoying increase in weight/size over the K5 and the K1 will be even more so for you.

However, objectively I know that if I went the KP route I still would have wished I got the K1 so this is kind of a no win situation.

Despite the annoying increase in weight and size over the change from K5-->K3-->K1 I still make sure I take my K1 with me because otherwise it is a waste of $$$. The difference with the larger viewfinder size in the K1 is also quite noticeable, as well as the general upgrade in the viewfinder, overlays and better indication of AF points.

The extra stop of shallow depth of field from full frame can also be nice although there are downsides as well. Sometimes you have to stop down to have more things in focus which kind of negates the full frame advantage.

As far as autofocus goes, you will enjoy the upgrade with either the K1 or KP although buffer depth is an issue with both. The K3 is a clear leader in this respect. The 11 point AF system in the K5 really is quite antiquated now.

In your case, I really think the KP is the way to go:
- Better AF;
- Better shake reduction;
- Better high iso;
- Flip screen;
- Wifi;
- Still light weight.

Argh! Every time I see these sales I go to both the dcxpert ebay store and Pentax webstore, and they never have the one lens I'm after - the 15-30mm.

Unfortunately in the time I was umming and erring on whether to get the K-1 or KP, the K-1 got sold out! I decided on the K-1 too...

I think either will give me better AF, but I really wanted the FF experience with my FA lenses.

No new stock until a few weeks at least.

Edit: dcxpert just added another silver on their eBay store for $2799. The 20% off code from eBay just made this a no brainer. I'm the happiest man alive right now! This will match my silver 31 and 77 very nicely.
