WOW

I am totally shocked by the condition of this. How can this be.

Hurricane/Tornado damaged, then salvageable parts removed and insurance company listed FS on eBay . . .

Perhaps, but Austria isn't exactly known for such kinds of weather phenomena.
Avalanche?

Looking more closely, I think the entire front lens cell has been removed, so 3 elements missing.
Check out the front:
It's supposed to look like this:
That baffle you see in image one is normally behind the front cell.[COLOR="Silver"]
Not being very familiar I thought that was just a hood! Whoops...

The tripod foot looks salvageable

... and, at the current price, perhaps quite a good buy

That looks like a lens used by the military or a police force. Anyone who actually paid for a fa250-600 would never have it deteriorate to that condition.
If you use it for work then the employees don't care if it gets beat up. Typical abuse of government property!

Phil.
Having worked as a photographer for the Canadian military I strongly disagree with your implication. Some of our equipment would get wrecked but very seldom and when you are working close to explosions some times it does get hit.

Soldiers nit held as accountable as civilians but also much less likely to get much expensive photo gear.

If I were to buy this lens I would display it. It would be displayed in a manner similar to an old half disassembled aircraft on a regional airfield; symbolic of an aircraft no longer operable, but too good to send to the scrap yard ...... locked into an eternal memorial exhibition unable to go to heaven or hell .......

I especially like how whoever took the photos just casually hung the mount ring on the side. "Isn't this where it goes?"

I reckon the previous owner had the perfect 'once in a lifetime' shot lined up, and missed it.

In a fit of rage he blamed the lens - tore off the power zoom button, munted the aperture ring, kicked the front element in and then jumped all over the lens in his heavy boots, whilst screaming 'verdammt' several times at the top of his voice....
